I have an idea. What happens is that in a routine patrol you are a EA fighter something jumps in by this weird blue portal. It is bug and blue. It hails you and says "This is the GTD <Insert name> where the hell are we?" You respond back by saying what system it is. The Orion hails you and ask who you are and what do you mean by <Insert name for system>. You tell it that you are part of the Earth Alliance and you are to power down your vessel. It responds by saying that you are in no position to do that. You then call for a Omega to jump in. It jumps in and says Who are you? Then it responds and says it is part of the GTVA. It could go on for a good 12-15 missions.

Seriously though while the ships and stuff may work isn't the physics different?  Also there are the glide capabilities.

Bah, you worry too much about physics. People have already succesfully merged Star Trek and Babylon 5 together *cough* Star Wreck *cough*. Though I have to admit that it is easier with a movie than with a game engine.

I am new here, but if anyone plans to make a nice campaign and needs some voices, my mmog-clan is willing to help out. We have a huge variety of insane accents here on Teamspeak (germans, korean, chinese, canadian e&f, americans, mexicans, greek...). We have people of different ages from 20 - 68 (including an outstandingly german rough deep voiced commmander type of person).

Just let me know what you need. 

I barely have the time nor the talent to learn fred2, but I might be able to help out with good stories.

In last mission from my " Wheel of Fire " campaigns the group of ships including Earth Alliance, Minbari Federation and some other races in result of unknown anomaly has appeared in unknown universe.
