Great War GTA fleet losses
At the end of the Great War just how much of its fleet had the GTA lost?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Including the Hades Rebellion and ships trapped in Sol, I'd say something on the order of 3/4ths of the navy was destroyed, rendered unusable, or otherwise lost.

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
I figure that they probably have similar losses. For example, the HoL smashes a whole Vasudan fleet in Beta Aquilae.

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
I'd say that both Terrans and Vasudans had at maximum third of their fleet surviving. They were both equally hit. First the Shivans struck the frontlines. Then Vasudans lost their homeworld and had to cope with HOL. Then Terrans lost their homeworld and had to cope with Hades rebellion.

So Id say 1/3 to 3/4 remaining on both sides. It's impossible to go more accurate. Or even which side sufferet more...

[Ah, sorry. I didn't receive my daily dose of Freespace today.

Thats very essential to your daily income.

I would say both the terrans and vasudans lost at least 75% of their fleet if it took them 32 years to recuporate.
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

Although given the number of Terran great war relics we see in FS2, their original fleets must have been huge......

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
I honestly cant see them recuperating after only 32 years...

Major corporations lost, especially since Earth went bye bye.  Resources close to none, since Bosch used the Vasudans recovery to invoke envy across the poor progress on system governments rebuilding their system... (Tech Room) I would say they had a very tough time recuperating.

I'm clapping to the corporations of Freespace 2 instead of the weak system governments of Terran space :p

The Vasudans did, but the Terrans didn't. I'm assuming that during the Shivan rampage they destroyed every space-born installation they could find for both species, but if you combine this with the massive political instability in the GTA after the great war its not hard to see why there were so many fenris and leviathans still in service.

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
You might also want to take into consideration the Orions that were built after the Great War. Though there is no canon supporting this, it should be safe to assume the GTA wouldn't just stop building destroyers especially during the dire conditions they were in. The older Orions like the Bastions were mothballed but I think we can assume that some of the newer Orions are still in service. The Bastion was probably newer than the Galatea from the looks of the menu screen. I wonder exactly how long Orions have been in service.

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
The Orions weren't mothballed until shortly before the fs2 campaign started, because 14 months prior the NTF rebellion had started, and the Orions would have needed capture as opposed to defection, and as noted by the 53rd Ravens leader who mentioned the Bastion only recently having been retired.

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
Was the galatea the ship that got a whole blown through it by the lucifer in the battle of deneb (freespace 2 introductory cutscene)? I'm only saying that because that's the only orion from the Great War that was destroyed that i know of (the other was the bastion, but that was still around in FS2 to blow up a node)

Re: Great War GTA fleet losses
The GTA also lost the GTD Amadeus and according to the Nephilim tech entry they ''lost two Orion class destroyers to a wing of Nephilims'' .
