Remember when the Lakota apparently declared independence some time ago? I haven't seen a word about it since. Was that fake or what?

As far as I know the 'declaration' was made by an activist group, and not by any tribal officials or elders. No vote or referendum appears to have been taken. Looks like a publicity stunt.
