Re: The 10 golden rules of online gaming
What I find more irritating is people with no basic common sense when playing a team game..

You might be a n00b, but use your head dammit!
There's nothing better than building a defensive perimiter in Termulus (the best possible perimiter..all turrets setup to have the best possible field of fire), only to have someone deconstruct it IN THE MIDDLE O AN ENEMY ATTTACK. Pure genius.

Or hording all the jetpacks and just hovering around in the base, camping..no one joining an attack or responding to call for a charge.

I'd be playing Allegiance right now, if it weren't for the damn NetFramework2.0 I have to have installed atm for VisualStudio 2005... :sigh:

Yarly... but Allegiance = bleh.. I tried once, only one server, and they wouldn't let me in.. or, well, after 10 minutes I gave up.  So.

I liked it aside from the hacking part. some people ARE just skilled. but i can understand since this was aimed toward veteran gamers.

I tried that, but something about trying to build stuff for 30+ minutes only to have it all destroyed by kamikaze bombers in a period of 2 seconds didn't appeal to me.

Not to mention the fact that 90% of my shots (that I saw, without a doubt, collide) never registered a hit on the enemy when I had approximately 100 ping.

In other words, you didn't miss much.

You guys didn't learn the tricks of the trade. Allegiance is all about teamwork..playing Rambo will get you nowhere.

Assuming  you have a competent commander, if he tells you to guard that constructor or miner - you do it.
No $$$ = no research.
No research = no new weapons and ships.
Expanding and holding territory is important.

A match lasts from 30 minutes to (rarely) 3 hours

There's a couple of things that you have to know when playing this thing:

If enemy has stealth bombers - patrol around your most critical stations with scouts, dropping sensor and pulse drones. Clog the jump points with them.
Stealth bombers have armor made of tissue paper and far weaker torpedoes than regular bombers, but if you're not careful, several of them will slip in one of your important system, position themselves outside your sensor range (usually above and below the plane...approx 6000-7000 meters from the target), wait for the others to make a diversion and then make a run for your station, decloaking at around 2300 meters.

If enemy is making a standard bomber run - TARGET THE NANNIES (scouts with nano-guns) as they constantly repair the bombers, making them 10X harder to take out. Once the nannies are out it's easier to take out the bombers.

Podkill only if enemy has more than 20 kill points. Each kill points means extra % damage the guy does to you. Killing someone in a pod with less than that is seen as cowardly.

And above all - listen to your commander. Don't fly alone - work in groups.

IMHO, it's a excellent team game.

As I said.

One server.

Ten minutes.

I'd had it.... if I'd actually gotten a chance to play, perhaps I wouldn't have considered the time I spent in the training ( ) a waste.

what server? On Sundays there are squadron matches and no one outside of the squadrons is allowed to join.
Sometimes the commanders just don't want to let more people in if it's too crowded already (50 + players in one sector = Lag & sector overload - all ships take damage over time when that happens)

If you're new you should try the novice servers..they're always willing to take in people.

<snip>

The only server available to me, and yes, it did have 50+ players in it.. there were no other servers.   Besides one.  And the 3 folks in there were just chatting, not playing.  Booooring.

The funniest thing I've seen about hackers, is when they are caught by posting screen-shots of their 133t scores on forums, and forget to turn their wall hack off.

And sadly, some cases I've seen, is these guys are still so bad you would never think they were hacking all along.

I know that most people who still bother trying to hack in Descent 3 are utterly abysmal at the game (though said n00bs have largely been rendered obsolete by community-created anti-cheat server software).  An intensely amusing session of "gang up on the lamer" usually ensues after any discovery of this nature.
