Video Extraction for a Music Video
Me and a couple of my friends at university are working on putting together a music video utilizing Chad Kroeger's song "Hero."  For the video part, we want to use the cutscenes from AceCombat 04, 5, and Zero.  I own all three games legally.

What we want to do is figure out how to get the cutscenes off the PS2 DVD and into a format that we can use.  AC04's intros are in .smv format.  AC5's are inside a what looks like some kind of archive, a .pac.  The intros themselves I'm guessing are also in .smv format.  AC Zero's are in a .pac archive, with the intros again in .smv format.  We've been all over the internet trying to find a converter for .smv -> anything we can read on a PC.  We found a converter that will do anything -> .smv, but not the reverse.  The .smv extension stands for SigmaTel Motion Video.

Essentially what we need is either something that can read .smv or a converter that can get it to a format we can read.  Or is what I'm asking illegal, even if I legally own the games? :nervous:

Bush (Verb) -- To do stupid things with confidence.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

Bumper stickers at my college:

Re: Video Extraction for a Music Video
You might want to try SUPER. This is what I use to rip the music off of music videos I download from Youtube.

Umm... I don't do anything bad with this. Not at all. Never.

Wait a second...how did you...can you please UL all cutscenes so that I can DL them?

And what if I want ACX's intro cutscene? How do I extract files from a PSP game?

And what if I want to do something similar with PSX ACs ?

@thesizzler -- That was one of the first places we looked.  We think it might be the first type .pac file, but we're not sure.

@Mobius -- I can't do that.  I believe that would be copyright violation.

Re: Video Extraction for a Music Video
My best guess would be to try with 7z or something, first, then go off on your hunt.

Is it an actual archive, or just storage?

Re: Video Extraction for a Music Video
We've tried 7z and WinRAR.  We're actually not 100% certain it's an archive.  We have good reason to believe it is though, because I know that Sony uses a .PAC archive for it's Vista/Vaio system recovery discs.  That archive contains all the Vista bloatware.  We were thinking that they might be similar in structure.  As a result, we tracked down kcap, which is a really old command line utility used for decompressing .PAC files.  It didn't work for our .PAC file.

One thing we think might work is a program called CrossePAC.  I think it was made my a company called Digital Strategies.  We can't find it though.
