I never used NS6 enough, so I don't have much of an opinion on it.

I'm stuck with NS6. Since my job involves webhosting, I need that stylesheet support. NS4 doesn't handle style sheets properly and its just about the only other browser that will work on my unix machines. I don't run Konqueror or its ilk, because I don't (and won't) install the extraneous crap that they require. Opera completely fails to run.

My problems with NS6 and vBulletin can be found in three places. Editting a post, replying to a post, and submitting a post. During any of these three acts, the form (the one into which I am typing right now) never finishes loading. I suspect an unclosed tag somewhere. During initial submits, this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance. During replies and edits, it becomes a serious problem becuase it never actually submits the data. The only solution is killing the mozilla processes and trying in a new process instance. I have this problem with all bulletin boards running vBulletin and NS6, even on my win2k and win9x machines at home, so I don't think it is unique to just me. I don't have any other problems with NS6 outside of its dubious interactions with vBulletin. That's not likely something you guys can fix, I think.

The other things I mentioned, however, should be easy to do with a little bit of jiggerypokery in the code. They'll take time to sort out, but I expect all the important ones will get done with time.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Netscape 6.2.1 works fine for me, except for the forms size :)

The Avatars

Make them gifs. That way you can give them some transparency and stop the 'Black Box' effect on the burgundy posts.

EDIT: And the PM pop-up thingy is cool.

EDIT2: And in the PM window the 'Reply to this Message' button's picture ain't there.

You dont. Admin people are the only ones with avater editing access at this stage - you can select one from the public selection or not have one at all - but we aren't going to do individual avatars. If you want one for a hosted project then you'll have to wait untill we've sorted that out - shouldn't take long.

actually, I'd just like me and my staff people (if they want, of course) to have the old OTT avatar :) no work at all, it already exists :)
Hmm, in fact, actually, I don't care much.

The thing is, it doesn't let us plug in a URL... it's different. If it were the same, everyone's avs would be back already... pity. :o

I'd like to believe that HLP purchased a BB because they cost around more or less Aus$200 and you can only use them for one site there not licensed for more than one!!!

Ive been telling everyone very loudly to go Vbb or PHPbb.

I think its a massive improvement, more complex to get the hang of but in the end it will be worth it.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
