Feb 20th Total Lunar Eclipse
On Wednesday night is the last total lunar eclipse of the decade, visible from the Americas (after sunset) and Europe/Africa (before sunrise).  The moon will just barely enter the inner shadow, meaning that the total phase of this eclipse should be relatively bright red/orange.  Be sure to check it out, weather permitting. :)

I have. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day but I'd still recommend being present for one at some point in your life even if you know that it will be cloudy. Watching the transition from day to night in seconds was incredible even though I couldn't see the eclipse itself.

Re: Feb 20th Total Lunar Eclipse
I witnessed the 1999 Solar Eclipse, full blown clear blue skies. It was awesome. We tore out floppy disks to look directly at it.

We weren't that bright, but then again we were kids.

I can't wait for August 1st this year. Being in Sweden, it'll affect us significantly.

Re: Feb 20th Total Lunar Eclipse
And the (partial) eclipse has begun! Total eclipse in about 1 hr, 15 min!

Dammit, Mother Nature, why'd you put so many clouds in the sky tonight??  :hopping:

Awesome, it snowed here in the DC area earlier today and it just cleared up. :D  The eastern-edge of the moon's going pretty dark now.

Too many ****ing clouds! I can't see a thing!

Hopefully they'll clear up by the time the moon starts becoming visible again.  :sigh:

Re: Feb 20th Total Lunar Eclipse
I went out and watched it when it was about half-way eclipsed. Then I realized that it's February and I'm in Canada, so I went back in.

Re: Feb 20th Total Lunar Eclipse
Winding down now, about 50% remaining for the partial phase.  The pairing of the eclipsed moon along with 2 bright stars (actually the brighter one is the planet Saturn) was pretty impressive.
