Quick question here. Does the -converge flag in the weapons.tbl make the guns automatically converge or does it make them follow the guns firing normal and the guns converge by default?

The convergence flag in the weapons.tbl makes the weapons converge to the point you specified in the POF file.

There is no difference if you don't specify a convergence point.  To do that, you go into PCS2 and do it from there with the convergence calc.

What happens if you have a convergence point but you don't set the flag?  Do the guns just fire forward (along the ship's z axis)?

By default guns fire at ships z axis. With the flag the game actually uses the firepoint normals for something (be it convergence, weapons firing behind you or what ever).

Yeah, a normal should always be set for a firepoint I think.  Someone had written an auto-convergence script though.  It should be floating around somewhere.

kinda, the point were your guns converge is were they're closest together, thus giving the best accuracy

Yeah they don't stay converged past that point, each blast continues to go in a straight line, so they spread out from each other.  Kind of like WWII fighters or something.

You can't set convergence points of a weapon.

No but it's not entirely implausible to think that you could set a weapon to follow any available convergence points.

You can script automagic gun convergence if you like... Its actually rather simple thing to do.
