I've been listening to game music and soundtracks since Primary 6 and I'm still not tired of them. In fact, after I got Descent 3: Mercenary, I found my favourite piece of music. Even though I've got lots of newer, and probably better-sounding music, I still maintain the following as my favourite piece of music among all:

Don't know about Demoscene as an actual genre of music, but a lot of the demo soundtracks of the 90's did have their own particular sound, yes.
