Phalanx Defence System
First off let me say that I enjoy the work that was done on creating the Phalanx system on the Omega, it's a real joy to be able to run for cover to the nearest and Omega and watch those X-rays and Pulse cannons tear up any thing on your tail.

Now the question is, is what is the best way to defeat the phalanx system, short of letting a friendly cap waste the omega. Every time I jump on to an Omega I always get caught at the rear end of it and get torn to pieces, especially if I'm piloting anything Narn (Damn Frazi's are useless),t he Sentri, and obviously the Nial, I tend to have better luck with.

Re: Phalanx Defence System
to be honest, the default setup for the Omega makes it a killing machine. Not exactly canon, but lethal.  :nervous:  I don't know any good way of dealing with that ship but to FRED a friendly Sharlin in fireing range

My first instinct was to say look for blind spots in the ship's firing arcs, but I'm not sure it has any.  :nervous:

Re: Phalanx Defence System
if you leave all the AAA beams on the thing (which I did not in 2260 M6  ;7 ) and free all, there is no safe spot left to hide but the Fighterbay

Re: Phalanx Defence System
Well i just tried it one time and i "survived" by staying in the fighterbay, too.
You could also use a lot of wingmen to draw the fire on them... :D
And who says that the Omega is not a killing machine in canon??

He's likely referring to the beam/pulse switching. Though I am sure I have seen it do that in the show. In fact getting to Omega to do that was a plan for a long time. We had to wait for the game engine to catch up and support it.

Re: Phalanx Defence System
no, it's just that EVERY broadside turret (=all but the ones at the aft and front) has an AAA beam, which is NEVER EVER seen in the show. The canon B5 Omega just has beam/impuls switching weapons at the aft and front.

But, how am I to argue if you can actually edit the ship as you need it ?

Re: Phalanx Defence System
Well i tend to agree with IPAndrews, because i think i've seen the phalanx-turrets firing beams AND pulses in the show...but i'm not 100% sure...
At least the ShadowOmega fired beams from his side-turrets.

The Omega is much better/useful/cooler now with the upgraded defenses! Canon or not  :pimp:

Re: Phalanx Defence System
;7 ;7 ;7 name the episode  ;7 ;7 ;7

IIRC, the two episodes to check are:
"Point of No Return": During the ISN report on the Alexander and fellow defector's escape, an Omega either fires a a red beam (ie. x-ray laser) from the side or is hit by one. I'm pretty sure it fires said beam, someone with the DVDs will have to check.

"No Surrender, No Retreat": During a view of the battle from a Whitestar's bridge window, a red beam (ie. x-ray laser) can be seen originating from an Omega's forward ventral area, aft of the hammer head.

Personally, I prefer the defence grid being a lot more proactive and effective in the game than the TV series. On the show, it's been shown to be quite capable when it's actually given enough of the budget for rendering. I think the idea that it's too effective in the game comes from a false impression given by the TV series, which tends not to show the defence grid donig much of anything (or missing widely against Whitestars at point-blank range). The game should not be held to such an artifact of budgetary limitations.

Re: Phalanx Defence System
The Saint is correct.  The ISN camera feed of the Omega firing a side beam doesn't show it switching to pulse shots, but I really think it's safe to conclude the phalanx guns have multiple fire modes.

Yeah, more or less. It's a shame though that in the show we don't really get to see the true power of the Omega, you do a couple of times but only, IIRC, against other EA ships. the Strieb, and the Drakh.

Re: Phalanx Defence System
Sounds... interesting to attack.

Finally something that reduces the efficiency of the Pegasus to nothingness.
