Stuttering Graphics?
Hi all,

I've been trying to install FS2O on a new machine, so I simply copied all the files on my laptop over.  This install ran fine on my laptop.  However, on this new machine, the framerate seems very high, but the game is unexpectedly jumping and stuttering, particularly when I'm looking at ships.  I've tried disabling the mediavps, and turning the graphics down, but this had no effect.
The only things that seem to help at all are turning off antialiasing, and turning off features through the launcher.  These both reduced the stuttering a little, but it's still pretty bad.

Here's the specs on the new machine:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.8 Ghz
XFX Nvidia Geforce 8600GT
2GB Corsair memory
Vista Ultimate

Here's the specs on the laptop:

Intel T5200
Intel 945GM Integrated Graphics chipset
2GB memory, shared with graphics
Vista Home premium

I'm working on reinstalling using Turey's installer right now, but it boggles my mind that a laptop with no graphics card doesn't have problems while this new one does...

My video drivers on both machines are up to date, I just built the new machine.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

Re: Stuttering Graphics?
Might be because of that dual core processor. Try tampering with the core affinity. When you have FSO running, bring up the Task Manager, find the fs2_open_---.exe on the list, right-click it, select Set Affinity and set it to 1, for starters. See if that helps.

Re: Stuttering Graphics?
Actually, I did try adjusting the core affinity, but it only aggravated the problem.

I finished reinstalling, which strangely enough did not install everything (?), so I copied the files which were not in the fresh install from the old install.  Everything is now running smoothly...I must have corrupted a file when copying over the network.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Re: Stuttering Graphics?
OK, interesting development:  I've been working with overclocking my processor lately, and thought I had a stable setup (ran a burn-in program over an hour just fine).  FS2O runs fine UNTIL it suddenly crashes to blue screen and does a memory dump.  After that, the jerkiness appears and remains, even after a full reboot.

Any thoughts? Other than not overclocking the processor, but FS2O is the only thing having trouble with it...
