Ok, so Spitzer was caught with his pants down (literally) and is now resigning (because the republicans threaten to impeach him if he doesn't). Apparently this whole thing comes about as previously secret FBI wiretap (why was he being spied on?) data was "leaked" after Spitzer began seriously criticizing the Bush administration's handling of the economic problems, which is pretty ****ing convenient. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this? It just seems like this illustrates the dangers of indiscriminant spying, they can always find a way to use what they know about you to silence you.

He is married but was sleeping with a prostitute, this came to light because the FBI "leaked" it's wiretap data on him after he started getting critical of the bush administration's handling of the economic issues. At least that is my understanding......

The wiretaps were in place because the government thought they might have been evidence of him taking bribes.

I suspect there is mroe to this than the cover story suggests. Spitzer made a great many powerful enemies (some of which were connected to the bush administration) by going after corperate corruption/misconduct. The whole timing of this smells like a setup.

I personally think he over-paid. She's nice, but not $4000/hour nice.

I also marvel at American's misplaced priorities. It's OK for a politician, or in fact every politician, to take inordinate amounts of money from the like of Lockheed and Boeing, but it's not OK to cheat on your wife.

Just a modernization of an old adage. As they say; kill one man and you're a murder, kill a million and you're a conquerer. In this case; steal one dollar and you're a thief, steal a million and you're a financial genius.
