Ok, i'm wanting to start on making voice-overs on my campaign, as it is easier to fly without having to read whats going on.
The problem is, the Vasudan voices... i have the Vasudan voice wave file, but what about that nifty distortion in the voice? is there something i can use to make my voice like that?

You first need a clean recording of the voice sample...and GoldWave (www.goldwave.com). Use its mechanize option...

Ugh, I don't like the distortion. I much prefer the FS1 voiceovers, particularly in command briefings. Plus it seems that the quality of translators has actually gone down in 32 years.

P.S. The icons are wrong for "New topic" and "Post Reply."

What about female vasudan voices?
I'm serious there btw. Probably females didn't have the right to fight by FS1 time, but maybe the prolongated contact with the Terrans changed that? Assuming vasudans are sexued species and have females, of course.

Also, remember how limited FS1 was, i bet they never even THOUGHT of Female Vasudans.

There were female wingmen in FS1. Command and large ships were always white men, however, because there was only one Command head ani.

...no idea about female vasudans. But before you gonna include them, check the FS2 history data. Maybe female Vasudans have a specific part in religious things or are not allowed to fight...

This can't be done with specific settings...first of all you have to familiarize yourself with Cool Edit and GoldWave. I used both make the wav.

Oki...here some tips:

Record your voice samples. Filter out any backround noise (there are Cool Edit tutorials explaining you how to do this (they really explain...you don't need to red)).

Then compress the wave...that does not mean convert to MP3 or something, but bringing the wave form to one volume. (Cool Edit: Transform / Amplitude /  Dynamics processing / Vocal Limiter).

Then decrease the S-Tones (there is also a preset).

After that...save...start Goldwave, do the mechanizing thing, go back to Cool Edit and sample it down to 11 khz, 8 or 16 bits (GoldWave doesn't sound that good in low quality frequencies).

...now you should have some nice things...if you wanna hear more of them...ask Darkage...I made some for him...

Here's an explanation on the female Vasudans:
In FS1 the translator was generic, very basic, one monotone voice. In FS2 some of the Vasudan voices in english sound female, my assumption is that the FS2 translator "anglocizes" the Vasudan speech patterns to replicate what the person would sound like if they were Terran.

So Vasudan females are in FS1 and 2, it's just how the translator picks it up. Honestly to a Vasudan would a Terran male and female sound much different except for a few decables which we don't even know how their ear behaves? (so we don't know if a Vasudan can hear the difference in Terran gibber...)

well, if you listen to how they speak, their language is based on a very large spectrum of sounds, and lots of them are very close, so I think that actually for them terran male and female voices sounds really different, much more than for us actually.
