What about the centaur project?
This one seems interesting:

I know part 1 was released, and part 2 was supposed to be released soon.

Any news on the project? It was damn good. I hope it's still on.

Starts with D, ends with D, and has the letters E and A in it.

NOOO :(

why are they all falling like flies?

Re: What about the centaur project?
Starlord, you've posted several topics on campaigns that died years ago. If you want something playable, look at the half-dozen or so living projects on HLP and Game Warden. Old stuff is cool, just keep it in perspective. A lot of early projects never made it.

By the way, the Centaur Project released a few demo missions, find them on their webiste.

Re: What about the centaur project?
Sorry: I just like to keep things in perspective when it comes to old campaigns.

Yet TCP was proposing a unique thing among campaigns: a definite solution to the shivan problem. AFAIK, no other campaigns covered this.

Re: What about the centaur project?
You're right, no decent campaign yet made has really explained the Shivan's origin and motives. But some projects plan to, eg PI and Blue Planet.

IIRC their idea was to somehow bypass Subspace, which was an idea I didn't particularly like (in fact I disliked the idea, so i didn't play it).

Re: What about the centaur project?
It is not dead actually, but it has been a one man project for a few years now, and I can only spend time on it when I am on longer holidays, due to work and family stuff.
I was hoping that I could finish Part 2 last summer. I even made a second teaser movie for the release but I was wrong.
I have started working on it again recently. There is one more mission I should do for Part 2 (2-3 more weeks) plus the voices and briefing anis.
Hopefully this summer ...

Yes we really introduced the idea of bypassing stable nodes (not subspace) and moving between any two points with certain ships only.
This was something to provide advantage to the GTVA side without unrealistic ship sizes, numbers and BFGs.
Without being too scientific on something that is not scientific at all, I realize that nodes (possesing, keeping, capturing them) are a basic element of FS, so we try to keep a balance with this.
But instead of extending the old plotline with endless fighting for nodes we really wanted to bring something new (well maybe not entirely new), and to move on with the story as well. We do not depart from basic FS concepts.

It's quite impossible to please everyone with something that would "continue" the original FS story, and really the interest / feedback has not been too inspiring in the past years either.
Just fly on !

Re: What about the centaur project?
The reason I did not like the idea is that originally, the very NAME of the FreeSpace was an early name for Subspace (check the FSRefBible). But anyway.

So will the new Centaur project use new ships and SCP features?

Re: What about the centaur project?
Yes, we have new ships for each upcoming chapters, but no SCP support.
Unfortunately I have no time to learn/follow/test the new SCP features, so TCP will be for retail FS (that is surprisingly still a great and stable game after the years).
Sorry for that.
Just fly on !

I'm rooting for you too, Grunt.  If nothing else, your perseverance is admirable.  And you did have a lot of interesting ideas in your demo campaign. :)

Re: What about the centaur project?
Sure it is part of history. I announced the campaign on the Volition Bulletin Board back in 2000.
We used hexa editors to build ship models then. It must be funny.   ;)
But there is too much work in it and would be a shame to let it die.

The "demo" is actually the first chapter of the campaign.
Just fly on !

Wow. I just started FreeSpace then...

Good luck BTW. I wonder if the Campaign Restoration Project might be able to help with adding SCP features...
