1.  Paintball is reasonably cheap if you go to an existing range.  We went to one not far from Edmonton for a buddy's bachelor party, and it worked out to $50/person for about 6 hours of play (that included gun rental, range time, clothing, and paintballs).  With a club membership its even cheaper.

2.  Airsoft guns are not illegal in Canada.  Replica firearms ARE illegal in Canada.  Thus, if you buy an Airsoft gun that is NOT classified as a replica firearm, it's perfectly legal.  Some [informal] guidelines:  Should not contain markings identifying it as, or similar to, any known firearms manufacturer or model; should be painted with markings indicating clearly to the naked eye at distance that it is not a real firearm; clear plastic components or obvious differences from any real firearm are a plus.  In other words, if a layperson can walk up to the thing, point at it and say "That's not a real gun" then you're good to go.  Also, and this is obvious, some BB and Airsoft guns sold in the US and abroad have a muzzle velocity in excess of 500 feet/second.  This automatically classifies them as a firearm under Canadian law unless exempted under the Firearms Act.  Thus, check the muzzle velocity of any Airsoft/pellet gun you wish to purchase and import.

IIRC, there are a few retailers that sell Airsoft guns within Canada, enabling you to avoid the import requirements altogether as they've already been OK'ed.

I doubt you'd get an airsoft with 500 ft/s. Most I've seen is 300.

nah, pushing 500 is easy. Even with a springer, not a gas gun. My current sniper is 450 fps, and thats with .25 g bbs, and its a springer. With .12 g bbs the gun shoots well over 500.

Paintball guns cost like $300 JUST TO GET A GOOD ONE!!! ANd about $80 for 1000 paintballs. I cannot justify this to my parents!

I play p-ball a lot too, but i dont find it that expenisve, Try www.actionvillage.com for paint and other gear.  They are known for having the lowest prices.  They sell cases of 2000 Chronic (best paint ever, breaks every time and is mad accurate) for around $50.  As for the gun, I'd recommend a relatively cheap but sick gun, the Smartparts Ion, I swear by mine, shoots as fast and accurately, if not more so, than guns my teammates paid over $800 for, while I paid a total (including a LOT aftermartket parts) of about $600, but now that they've been out for a while they are around $200 or less.

Just out of curiosity, where you from?  I play in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, so I can reccomend a few fields from these areas if you're close.  If you're in ottawa i mite play u someday

Firearm skill doesn't translate into paintball skill.  I know.  I can pick off a pop can dead center with iron sights (scopes are for wimps! ) on a .22 from 75 meters;  with your average paintball gun I'm lucky if I can pick off a 5' 11" 250lb human male at 20 meters.

Paintballs are large, spherical projectiles.  They do not follow a predictable flight path beyond about 15 meters (or 50 or so feet).  Doesn't matter how good your aim is =)

In short, make sure you spend a great deal of time behind cover and ambush any players that come stumbling by =)

I usually tap off 3 adjusting after the first. Hopefully i hit with the third. If not it's too late and i'm being zeroed so i relocate. I got more scrapes from sliding over razor sharp rocks in frozen mud than pb impacts.

Well where I am, we have three pb fields to play on and one sux, one sux moar and one is good buy expansive. However the one that sux just sux because they give you guns that fire at like 180fps. I'm sure If I could get enough people to buy their own guns then it may become a viable option (however unlikely that is). Airsoft guns actually ARE illegal because they fall under replica firearms and that makes them a prohibited item. There were actually grandfathered after 1998 but no-one pays any attention to that. Getting an airsoft gun past 300fps is easy but past 500 fps and enough joules of muzzle energy and it's classified as a firearm. I know there are retailers within Canada but so few people are willing to stick their neck out selling prohibited goods that prices are somewhere around $500 for an un-upgraded LPAEG. I'm not aware of any airsoft guns that don't look like actual guns except for wal-mart clearsoft guns (which suck) but if someone knows more about this than me then go ahead and tell me!

Skiing is something I've never thought of and never really liked but that's only because I've ever done cross-country skiing. It doesn't really solve my problem of something to do over summer but I think I may give it a shot sometime in the fututre since everyone likes it so much. Oh and I can't go hunting because my dad doesn't let me go hunting (or FISHING!!! I've never been fishing!) even though he hates animals. Combining scuba diving and something else sounds fun though. New sport! EXTREME UNDERWATER KNIFE FIGHTING!!! I've treid fencing though. Didn't care for it much. Getting dressed up in what feels like a giant diapersuit and running backwards and forwards poking each other with bendy pieces of wire didn't fee quite as exhilirating as I expected. Swordfighting is kickass and all but fencing hardly qualifies as "fighting". Or for the word "sword" for that matter...

And playing chess.......yeah.......not a chess person. I'd rather watch two people play chess than actually play it myself. It's interesting once you have a removed perspective and can see both people's strategies unfold but once I'm seated next to a board I lose all perceptive powers (inlcuding the ability to dodge soccer balls). Maybe I'll combine CHESS with something dangerous. Like a new version of chess. Where instead of pieces you have several people who walk around chalk squares drawn on the ground and fight to unconsciousness when you try to capture something.

Well that, but as a polite man I would at least try to avoid killing. And no guns. Baseball bat maybe, but no firearms. It would mostly be a test of stamina and the ability to hold off an increasing number of opponents. And the most exciting part would be to find out what sentence you'll get after you are apprehended.
