It depends on what is meant with telepathy in this case.

There are some people who are more sensitive on that sort of things than the rest. And by "sensitive" I don't mean that they would be easier to fool to believe that someone could do all that kind of stuff. More likely, they have a capability to see something what others cannot, while as the others might excel in singing, drawing, story telling, leading, calculating, building etc. etc.

Even more frighteningly, it doesn't even strike me that odd that someone could know what is happening to someone else.

Bah, I really should avoid this topic. Bash it as much as you want for all I care.

No. No telephaty, at least not in a movie sense.

A special part of brain developed to transmit and decipher signal sent from antoher brain (signals we humans can't hear...like dolphin sonar) - yes, that sounds plausible.
While it might have a bigger bandwidth than human talk and look like telephaty, it still isn't. And you wouldn't be able to "read" anyones minds of thoughts.
