Not done yet, but so far

High Res model will be used to generate textures for the low res one. High Re model is up to about 230k triangles, low res is unoptimized, but @1500 triangles. High res will be completely covered with greebles b4 I'm done.

Edit. WTF, I intended to post this onto the back of the Battletech Thread...Hit post reply, and here I am...

Very good, I am nearly speakless. Thats one fine model you have there, when will we see it in a movie?

Can we also see the low poly model?
From where do you get the pics for modeling?
Ah damm it, I want a Computergame-engine and the PC that can handle this kind of models, so that such hard work could be valued in the right way.

26 hours of work so far, it's not done yet though. Low poly models

they will be textured from the high poly model. I've several other ships in the pipeline that i'll be using this method for.

What programs do you use to make those? Model and textures, I must know!  That model is theater-quality!

I use Maya. There are no textures to speak of, it's all models. Plus a crappy rivet texture I downloaded off the internet. The High res model is used to generate low res textures. You simply render from the cardinal directions, then slap the textures (with suitable modifications) onto the low res model. Split up properly, you can get very nice results.
