Boeing has patented lunar flyby process......
...causing the abandonment of an otherwise perfectly good satellite. And in other news someone actually patented "method for swinging on a swing"
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Wow. It's funny, because one of my parents worked in the field of patent analysis, and they never mentioned to me stuff about how ridiculous patents can be sometimes.

That's like that Foxtrot comic where one of them says they'll make an album titled 0 and an album titled 1 and sue everyone for billions of counts of music piracy.

Edit: Probably the nerdy one.

Edit: Yeah, definitely the nerdy one.

Edit: Is Foxtrot still being written, even?

Re: Boeing has patented lunar flyby process......
How in the blue moon can one patent something that can be derived from orbital physics?

Heck, I'll patent 32-decimal number system just in case it will ever become useful. Heck, if the byte size stays at eight binary digits, there might even be some applications for using 32-decimal system instead of hex decimal system... for example it would allow a whole new world of colour depth for images, with still using just 32-bits for storing RGBA colour information, because the white wouldn't be #ffffff any more but instead #nnnnnn - #fgfgfg would be the middle area gray.

...like the 32-decimal number system hadn't been there since the introduction of numbers... Babylonians used 60-decimal number system.

Seriously what the frichen. :wtf:

Again...this is dumb.

I'm going to patent walking down the street in a straight or relatively straight line.

Read the article:

Primarily this is because SES is currently suing Boeing for an unrelated New Skies matter in the order of $50 million dollars - and Boeing told SES that the patent was only available if SES Americom dropped the lawsuit.

Patent: Compound Gas and all processes involving it

Compound gas that consisting of 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon and 0.038% carbon dioxide, rest being of no significance. The gas can also contain water vapour to a varying degree. Can be used to transfer heat or move pistons with pressure. Also can be used to fill vehicle rubber wheels. Other uses include, but are not excluded to, gas transfer to and from blood, floating in it with a vehicle that has smaller net density than Compound Gas, or using foils and high velocity to create high and low pressure zones around the foils, which cause a varying amount of Compound Gas to move into a direction x, causing a force vector to be applied to the foil into direction -x (opposite of x).

I mean, it's kinda complex combination, it must've taken me some effort to figure out this kind of exact ratios for this gas... damn it has some curious applications too.

The thread titles seem to have matched up perfectly:

A large part of the US military-industrial complex, the patent for a particular orbital maneuver, and a plan. Worry ensues. :P

Seriously, try to patent that, let us know how it goes.

I reckon that you might actually be able to sneak a patent like that in actually HT. :D
