There's far too much choice in London, i was dead set on one of those USB stick jobs as it avoids the whole line rental hassle. But i've been reading small print on websites and it says "the fastest available speed is 1.8mb (O2 if you're interested)" so i'm leaning away from them...


Now i have no idea, all i want is unlimited downloads and about 8mbps...

By USB stick do you mean EVDO? Cause if you do, it's at about 2.4 here (about my connection) and it also works with phones. (yours should be new enough to support it)

be careful to read the small print of tmobile and orange, both have a limit to there unlimited offers ..............

get internet at your house and then when in town , us e starbux or someone elses wifi connection , more and more ppl are running open networks in major cities (even in tiny little country villages aswel )

to be honest i havent got any idea about uk based ip providers , i live i the land of france telecom( the owners of orange) and they are all powerful here unless you live in a big city the you can choose something else ,

i just had another look at t mobile and they do a 10gb unlimited but at 44quid a month so tht sucks......... my solution get an atheros wifi card in ur pc and borrow your neighbours connection

Here is Denver we can choose between Qwest, AT&T, Sprint (sucks), Level 3 Communications (not sure if they provide individuals internet or not),

Right now we're using Qwest 7 Mbs DSL, and I'm having no problems with it.

We were with Pipex till it got bought out by Tiscali, so we're looking for a new BB provider too at the moment. Too many of the large corps limit your bandwidth, which I despise, as a college student, the last thing I want is for the Internet to go down because we've overrun, and I desperately need information to complete a project.

i hate how when you buy broadband in the us you get jacked like mad unless you buy a bunch of other stuff you dont want as part of a package. that has always pissed me off. i just want broadband, i dont need 300 channels or a wireless plan, of long distance, or whatever. can i just buy broadband without getting jacked something fierce?

Sure it's not 10 Megabits instead of bytes?  That's my guess.  They are tricky with that stuff.  Because 10 Megabits per second = 1280 Kilobytes a second.

At the moment, my options here are Comcast and...Comcast. As Nuke said, they want to you buy their TV/internet packages. Around here, the internet (same speed) by itself is inexplicably more expensive than the package, so I got the package even though I never watch TV.

I'll probably switch to FiOS soon though, which will become available here in a week or two. It should be both faster and more reliable than this cable line, which has been intermittently dropping out every few days and causing a lot of frustration.

Well, I guess you guys need to move to Denmark if you want an ISP that actually gives you what you pay for. I'm supposed to get 15mb down and 1mb up, and here are my results:

Pretty much on target It's also nice that these aren't "up to" speeds. When a connection is advertised as being a 15mb connection, then they have to consistently provide that speed instead of just giving it to me once in a while when traffic is really low.
