I've FINALLY done it!
Well, its official...I finally stumbled through making my first texture on a custom ship.  Yes, I know the texture sucks...i did it in paint.  But i finally got the uv map to work using map magic and lithunwrap.  I shall post the pof, cob, texture and some screenies in the morning.  Can someone help me get it scaled and shielded?  I can get it in game after that. Thanks a million

The ship is 190 meters long - 25m or so would be better. You can either scale it in your modeling app or use PCS2 to scale it on import. (190/25= 7.6)
Options>Preferences>Cob Scaling Factor

The UV map needs to be rearranged and scaled up. It covers less than a quarter of the usable texture. Basically you are turning the 1024 texture into a 256.

When you get to HTL ships, lithunwrap is an underperformer.

For the shield mesh. Just create an iso-sphere with 80 faces. Call it shield, and shape roughly to your model.

Looks a lot like an arwing, is that intentional?  :D (I do have one of you want I never got around to messing with cause I'm waiting for SOL)

Just gonna make some bogus gunpoints and a missile for testing and shield it (import from other pof).

IF you liek it I will 7zip it up and then delete after upload here (or my link).

Done... As far as I can take it.

One curious problem. For some reason the central thruster glow (even moved back) half obscures the pilot eyepoint????) never had that happen before, so why?

Anyway: I 7ziped your cob (with shield - works), textures (original, pcx, shine, glow), I added 2 sets of missiles and one set of tri primary gunpoints. NUkemod adds visible secondaries so ignore in screenie.

I disable support in my test missions cause lots of time that causes crash if a test enemy summons support so I did not test your dockpoint/path I added (imported and moved the one for Apis)

I included pof versions a through c also to show you the steps I added. I over writ the starfighter.pof with the final version (was Starfighterd).

Hope this gets you to where you wanted...

p.s. anyone know how to reset you screen shot count? Even deleted from folder the new ones I make are at 237+ now...

Couldn't locate an eye point in PCS.

In the hundreds of .cob conversions I've done, I think I only had an eyepoint problem once before and you know what, I have no idea why...  :D

Did he do something to the original cob? I thought eyepoints are automade?

I actually would have no idea to make one from scratch, every fighter I've flown seemed fine.
(except for a destroid MONSTER, the eyepoint was buried in the armor and you could only see out a tiny eyeslit, but since it is a non-player GROUND UNIT, that shouldn't be a problem, right?)

Well....i went and looked at it.  Noticed that a lot of stuff was either taken out or lost in conversion.  I'm using truespace 3.2 to model, and pcs2 for the pof.  I did all my eyepoints and some such there.  don't know why it had that crazy glowing ball..... but anywho, the ship was what i was originally trying to do earlier.  It is a cross breed variant between an Arwing and and mk 2 viper...kinda.  My modeling skills suck.  But its pretty good for a first attempt.  and Robo....YOU HAVE AN ARWING!!!!????  *drooling*  You are my new best friend.  anyway...yeah...i loaded it it pcs 2 and didn't see any hardpoints.  loaded it in pcs and there they are.  Anyway i'm gonna try and tweak things a little bit and see where it leads.  Then i'll repost the files.  Thanks a lot guys.
