Expectations for ST3?
July 29, 2008... The current scheduled release date for Starship Troopers 3.

What can we expect? Hopefully not a cheap horror flick like the 2nd one... They've brought back the original actor who played Rico, which I guess is a plus. Any fans of the original hoping this isn't a disappointment?

Yes, though movies series tend to go down hill at number three, except Lord of the Rings, which did well, and ST2 sucked badly.  ST1 on the other hand, now that was a strange example of the film being better than the book.

I'd say neither is better; the movie is just different.

Re: Expectations for ST3?
Good point.

But yes, I am hoping this is not dissapointment.  #2 was ok, they could have come up with a better storyline then that tho. But seeing the Telsa Coils was worth it.

Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. It was sort of a mesh between Verhoeven's movie, Heinlein's original novel, and a bit of creative license thrown in for the hell of it. In other words, it was all kinds of awesome.

If you're interested and got the bandwidth to spare, I highly recommend checking it out. The entire run (right up until it's cancellation at a major cliff-hanger) has be uploaded onto YouTube by these two beautiful mother****ers. First part of the first episode cluster (the series is divided into 'campaigns' of about 5 episodes each) can be watched here. Enjoy!

Those CGI effects look so subpar.. like a low budget TV show or something... definitely not professional job.

Re: Expectations for ST3?
Once again murdered by a complete and total lack of powered armor.

EDIT: If by animation, you mean actually animated, there was a Starship Troopers anime as well, but the only thing I really know about it was the stark resemblence the helmets on the series' armor bore to a Halo MJOLNIR suit's.

I watched part of it and thought it was kind of bad. There is one quote I'll always remember:

"No wonder we're losing the war, everyone is too busy ****ing instead of fighting"

Brilliant.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

This is actually pretty good, and I pass along my recommendation on top of Mefustae's. I just got one complaint. Pluto Campaign first, wtf's next? :p I can't seem to find something to point me in that direction.

Re: Expectations for ST3?
Pluto Campaign -> Hydora Campaign -> Tophet Campaign -> Tesca Campaign -> Zephyr Campaign -> Klendathu Campaign -> Homefront Campaign

Spoiler:
Starts off with a skirmish/extermination on Pluto, before they find that the bugs came in from elsewhere, after which they tail a transport and discover the pit-stop on Hydora. Tophet is sort of a proxy-war for the Bugs, introducing the infested Skinnies as Bug 'allies', while Tesca depicts the troopers exploring Dagobah and kicking Yoda's ass. Zephyr is an "asteroid" the Roughnecks crash into en route to a mission, before making a rather shocking discovery. Klendathu covers, obviously, the invasion of the Bug homeworld and discovery of a Queen Bug. And finally, war hits the homefront when the Bugs attack Earth itself.
