Nah! The FSSCP looks way better! Could be an interesting diversion for a while though!

Re: Space shooter- worthy successor of FS?
Too bad that I can't run it on my PC. Because the longer I look at those screenies, the more I want to play it. I might try to run that game, that needs 512 MB RAM minimum when I have 128MB RAM.

I always wanted to have a game where I can be in such a low orbit. In FreeSpace, even the best skybox planets look far. Are there any good games that don't need a super strong PC, and you can be in such a low orbit of a planet?

Another disappointment. The gameplay just doesn't feel solid, and the combat has no impact. It's very arcadey.

They don't make space sims like they used too..
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

The asteroids look like clumps of excrement. Or perhaps potatoes.

And where did they get that bastard child of a Colonial Raptor and a Cylon Raider...? :wtf:

Eh. As far as looks alone go, I am not very convinced. Gameplay-wise, could be another matter altogether, but I dare say that FS2_Open with MediaVP's looks better... and it would be damn hard to beat FreeSpace on gameplay, so I remain rather skeptic.

No.  And furthermore, hell no.

Did not play the flaking demo (can't be arsed to reboot to Windows), but damn that looks ugly as sin.  The HUD looks like pure fiction and the art direction is questionable at best (are those AC vents for a guy in a full vacuum suit?).

The Tomorrow War looks hopeful at least. Cautiously hopeful, but still.

The HUD looks like pure fiction
Yes I for one would like some HUDs that look like fact

Re: Space shooter- worthy successor of FS?
Hey? A space sim? Cool.

Maybe it sucks, but at least someone's making 'em . . . maybe it's the beginning of a resurgence ;)

Let me rephrase that: half of the HUD looks like it's there for the sake of looking futuristic and cool, not for funcionality.  While I'm all for cool HUDs, everything there better do something useful while looking cool.

I played it, wasn't very impressed, but posted on their forums and the devs took a lot of my comments to heart, so I'm pretty happy. It has potential, just has a lot to get through before it's realized.

Don't go stealing all their fans with your sexy BTRL pictures  :p

Honestly though their English scares me a little, I'm hoping it's because it's not their native and not because they just don't care.

That's why I posted my comment, I'd like to see this game come out, but it still has a few things that need to be changed.

The Devs listen to suggestions? Is this game really commercial?

I feel obligated to play it and comment now. Anything that'll help make the game more successful.

Think maybe you should tell them to compare it to a more authentic space sim like Freespace?

Re: Space shooter- worthy successor of FS?
Yes, let's all tell them to imitate a 10 year old space sim with a fan base of barely 10,000. :p

TBH, I can grow tired of the combat gameplay of FS quite quickly. If it weren't for the story and the diversity of mission types and beam cannons and modding and general atmosphere and beam cannons and HLP and diversity of ships, I would've given it up a few years ago. Hence why I made fast mod, not only as something fun to develop in itself, but it provides me with a bit more exciting gameplay.

It's just that this "heresy" gameplay makes me appreciate vanilla FS all the more. :p

I think the physics in Heresy are better than those in FS...
