Ok, i need a fleet that represents the state of the GTVA Immdiatly (6-18 months) after capella. It needs to be either a refit or a rather cheap looking ship.
I have:
Orion Mk. 2
Tico
GTT Corsair
Praetorian
Typhon (with extra gunpoints)
Kulas
Hera

Which Orion 2?
Hamano's or TrashMan's?
Hamano's looks nothing like a refit. It looks completely new. No amount of refitting can get an Orion to look like THAT. TrashMan's looks good as a refit though.

That's Hamano's. That one looks completely different.
TrashMan's is an Orion with two runways on either side, and a lot of extra guns. (An has the triple turrets replaced with more double turrets). I would use that one if you wanted a el-cheapo/refit look...IMHO.

EDIT: Upon further analysis, Hamano's Orion mk2 is actuall an Orion hull with three sections slapped over top. Still, it doesn't look cheap (not with the 21 MjlonirBeam#Homes it has).

people seem to think that freespace's blocky ships are a form of stylization. but when you think about it back then 300 polies was considered excessive, so they couldn't take any liberty in making ships streamlined. you see the same problems in the space sims of the same era, even in other genres.

I disagree, Starlancer and other games had streamlined ships - or at least you could tell they were supposed to be streamlined.
Which begs the question - why are you streamlining ships in space?

and starlancer came out a year after fs2. other games around that time had more streamlined ships, another being tachyon. but that could be attributed to advances in technology, for example processors were starting to break the 1ghz mark. also you had the geforce 2 topping what the voodoo 3 (fs2's target video card) could do in terms of performance. every game back then was a new level of awesome, each game including a new effect. nowadays computer games all seem to look the same. technology being far more capable than the typical graphics team.

I believe it can. If it doesn't work, you can cannibalize the objecttypes table.

The easiest way to get refit/el-cheapo ships is through retextures/retables (especially retables).  You can also add some turrets in PCS2 if need be.

I do have something that might fit in as an refit of the aelous....
It's an aelous with additional beams packed into extesions to both sides...
