Re: Ha! Beat you malware ****!
The only argument you have brought up is the price which I agree with you on.  The fact that Mac is a PC is not the argument and thus is only used to discredit me (i.e. rhetoric)

I don't know anything about Linux or (Gentoo?) so cannot vouch for them.

Yes, the better the hardware the better the machine.  However Windows OS puts so much crap in memory as-well as buggy software that it doesn't do the hardware much justice.  Still for a "quality machine" IMHO it is wiser to buy a Mac purely because the cheapest macs around 700-1,000 (Mac Mini's and Macbooks) are way better machines than the more expensive Windows comps available today.

My job doing graphics design work, I get around so much easier on a Mac and 10 times more productive than a Windows.  Just the filing system, the flexible ram, and just the way you could switch between programs saves me alot of time.

For the last time, PC's that aren't bought from Apple do not have to have Windows. Are you that thick? If you don't want to mess around with the OS, you still have alternatives like Ubuntu, Fedora, etc... which are just as easy to install. And if you want to mess around with it you have a whole lot of them (of which Gentoo is just one).

Regardless of this OS business, when I buy a hardware, I buy regardless of what the public opinion is. Afterall, most users couldn't tell their root from their ass. So in the end, Apple is just a company which is overly preocuppied with making outlandish claims about everything they make and not enough making sure that their products have the prices they should have.

I actually need to make myself sit down and go through a full Gentoo install some day.  I've heard it's a learning experience.  :p

It's an adventure!!

Could be pretty thick because my range (experience) goes no further than Apple and Windows.  Of which I was arguing, not any other OS.
I thought that was made pretty clear.

I don't have the money to go blow on a computer, the computer I own was given to me.  The only OS's that I ever see around here are Windows and Mac, so I'll go for what I'm familiar with and a Mac does the job without the hassle of Windows.  Which I was what I'm talking about.

I apologise for being rude then. Still, my argument about the hardware still stands. Anyway, you could always try someday one of those OS I've refered to.

No worries, I would like to try them if I'm ever in the market.  :)

The problem with using a Mac is that there are few applications which run on it. The MacBook is even more problematic because it uses up a huge amount of battery power. If you were to set the sound and graphics on a MacBook to the lowest possible and run some program which causes the hard disk to start whirring, the battery will run out in two hours.

Re: Ha! Beat you malware ****!
I won't go into detail why I hate MacOS with a passion, considering I'll sound just like a maccee if I do.

But to summarize:  For each their own...  ...And an OS that don't let me control, define, or customize anything about how it interfaces with the hardware is not for me.  I prefer 'Burn CD in Mode 1, DAO/96' and not just 'Burn CD', tyvm.

My friend was going to get a macbook for college...

I told him to save his money and get a Thinkpad

I remember somone posted a mac monitor for sale, and the exact same monitor, distributed by LG for $500 cheaper.

Re: Ha! Beat you malware ****!
There are ways of making Mac OS run on anything... ;)  Not legal of course (ty very much, Apple), but if you own Mac OS 10.5 I'd say screw them just do it.  You bought it.  I do what I want with what I buy.  eg Windows XP Pro.  I bought it... no, thank you, I don't want to activate it.  So I got another copy, identical except no activation.  Sweet.   Pirated software FTW (if you own it legally, of course.  )

Although... has anyone noticed how much XP costs, and then though that this OS came out in like 2001??  :wtf:  Although since every service pack is like a new OS, perhaps not.  But every service pack is based on the same code, just patched and optimized.  Hmm.  Thoughts?

If you wanna do Vista, dual-boot it.  Use GParted Live CD (google it) to shrink your NTFS partition, and install Vista to the second partition.  It will detect XP and give it a boot menu entry.  ;)

Re: Ha! Beat you malware ****!
Alternatively, do things like messing around with application data and the PREFETCH folder. If you mess around with those correctly, your Windows OS should work at a much faster speed. I was fortunate, because my sister befriended a guy who eventually learned how to mess with Windows XP such that it runs much faster. He did his magic on my 256 MB computer, which has FS2_Open installed, and it worked. Before he came messing around, that computer took ten minutes to boot up. Now, it takes only five minutes to boot, probably less.

* raises hand *

It was worse than that. If I got it right, they were both made by LG and then one of them was put into a diferent frame (aka rebranded).
