Ship limit and beam-free-all
This has probably been solved before, but:

I heard there was a limit to the number of ships before FRED2 or FS2 (open) crashed. It was 50, but I can have over 100, and my computer still handles it well (+25 fps) until C+3+1 (4fps) but that is to be expected.

Also, can you beam-free-all every ship in the mission without having to add paste 20 beam-free-all's?

Thanks for any help (in advance).

EDIT: Damn, I knew I should've read more posts first (this is for the ship limit thing).

Hmmm....what are your "Battle of Endor" missions, where you have gone crazy over ships and had eg.
GTF Hercules Mk. II 137, C+3+1 Ravana 12, etc.

Re: Ship limit and beam-free-all
The original limit it FS2 was 100 in a mission that has been changed to I believe 400 in 3.6.10 builds.

There is an option in the mission specs to beam free all ships.

In FRED2_open, go to the mission specs editor and check "all ships beam freed by default". If you don't have the SCP, then no, you're stuck with the 20 beam-free-alls.

No.  The limit has been since retail, and still is, 130.  That is upped to 250 for Inferno builds, however.

Umm...this sounds crazy, but can anyone try to add GTVA Colossuses into a single FRED mission until it crashes? There was one time FRED2 crashed when I tried to put two Colossuses into the same mission.

Re: Ship limit and beam-free-all
That's because there's also a subsystem limit (800, as I recall) in FS2.  Two Colossus-class vessels shouldn't have hit that, though.  In fact, I just slapped eight into an otherwise empty mission, without FRED2 crashing.  Basically, in big warship confrontations, you're more likely to hit the subsystem limit than the ship limit, while missions involving large dogfights (especially when not properly utilizing waves) and civilian convoys or cargo depots are more apt to hit the ship limit.

No wonder FRED kept crashing when I tried to add a Setekh into my remake of the Slaying Ravana mission last time... :doubt:
