Just ordered a new PC, with fairly similar specs to the last set I posted.  I just played FreeSpace at 1680x1050 with 16X AA and 16X ANI with the 3.6.10 beta media VPs.  All I can say is bravo.

And Half-Life 2 Ep 2 looks gorgeous in the same.

God I'm glad I finally got a new PC.  Goodbye 9500 Pro, hello 8800 GTS!

And Vista, if properly configured, really isn't all that bad.

I've only ever seen one game where AA was needed after raising the resolution. That game was so poorly coded that it required massive resources to run it at 1280 x 960 alone.

Try running Quake Wars: ET (not the game mentioned above) at 1600 x 1200 with AA cranked up to the max. It looks like a hazy drugged-out nightmare.

Hey, I have a computer hardware related issue: What is the absolute best graphics card I can get for around 50USD short of buying a refurb/open-box/ebay?

I ask because my new motherboard will have an integrated geforce 7100, and I'm quite sure that that won't do me much good. I'm not trying to go crazy with cost or anything yet because I don't have a job yet, but I do want to get something decent that'll last me a couple years until I do have a job.

There isn't really anything worth buying for $50. You could get an 8800GS for something like $90 last I checked, which is the cheapest card that performs reasonably well in games.

If you're strapped for cash, I'm putting a 7800GT and X1900XTX on ebay soon, so I could offer you one of those. But the 8800GS is quite a bit faster than either one.
