New Feature Idea: Ingame Lighting Adjust
Add a screen (or modify an existing screen, such as tech room or F3 screen) so that you can see lighting variables like -ambient_factor, -spec_tube, etc. as you move sliders, instead of as you enter numbers and restart the engine.

You could also do an entire scene (pre-placed objects of varying kinds) and allow -fov adjustments.

Edit: HT informs me he has been advocating this for a while.

Re: New Feature Idea: Ingame Lighting Adjust
Yea... Though mainly the field of view changes, and not as a separate in-game menu. Things like setting ambient factor or specular lighting settings in the game without needing to exit and adjust the command line - hopefully with a preview render reference - would indeed be pretty useful.

A suggestion - if possible, incorporate this into the new ship lab when it's time comes. That way you would get a preview to the changes in the lighting, and you could see what different ships would look like with the particular lighting settings. Then just add "apply lighting settings" button. Possibly even possibility to save lighting profiles. Field of view changes should be in-game controllable by keypresses, but that obviously must wait till improved control code (Pilot code) to be realized (unless it's done by some creative scripting or some clever hack...), but being able to change graphical settings without exiting the game would be pretty cool for custom lighting adjustments.
