Ancients are cool because we survived only because of them being dead. And their ruins.

Yeh, it is sorta difficult to respect/admire a civilization that is on a neverending crusade to subdue/conquer any life they come across.

I admire them for being able to do so. GTVA only build up their defences, rebuild what they lost, and wait patiently until the Shivans come again to destroy them. Maybe crush a few rebelions in the mean time. While the Ancients seem to have been expanding all the time. Until the Shivans came of course.

The Ancients get arrogant and start pouring in all directions, beating up anything they come across and believing to be a Chosen Race, so to speak. And in both cases, the Shivasn arrive and start to pwn.

So I guess there is little relevance as to which path to choose. Expect that the actions of the Ancients raise a few moral dilemmas.

GTVA has around 23 systems. No extraterestrial life, except for Vasudans, Terrans and Shivans.

Ancients had a much larger territory. But it could be just a few species that they found- not a large amount. Who knows, maybe they just killed off the uninteligent species ( like humans do/did kill off entire animal species ), and just conquered inteligent species ( like the Vasudans, FOR EXAMPLE ).

The NTF were idiots under the guidance of Aken Bosch, who in turn had his own ideas regarding an alliance with the Shivans. The HOL were weirdos who believed that it is the correct procedure to allow the Shivans to do their thing. The 14-year war was... well, a ****ing war. They did attempt to establish a peaceful coexistence but the Terrans failed with the Conversation, thus severely insulting the very culture of the Vasudans and provoking them into a war. The GTI rebellion was an attempted coup.

Maybe but I still view the Ancients' actions more immoral, since they weren't satisfied with raping their own planet, but devided to start conquering numerous other planets as well.

Who said that they did something bad to their own planet? Afterall, in one of the cutscenes, they said they retreated to their home. They said it so like they were proud of it and all.

And isn't the GTVA doing the same? I mean, they wanted to steal the nebula system from the Shivans ( big mistake, but they did try that ).

       Actually technically as far as anyone knows the Shivans only wiped out one species, the Ancients. The Vasudans, were their 2nd attempt but they of course weren't quite successful. Whereas from the Ancient's own words we know they subjugated numerous species, at least some of which had developed spacecraft of their own.

       It's entirely possible the Shivans have wiped out thousands of species, but there's no canon evidence of that as far as I know.

In the last cutscene of FS1, it says that they had wiped out each species as it came along, creating an opening for a new species to develop.

There is that other point in that cutscene as well. The Shivans' ability to rebuild destabilized jump nodes. It has been explicitly implied that the Shivans can use jump nodes that are too unstable for Terran and Vasudan ships. But doing dastardly things to a node that is in a state as poor as the node to Sol... suspicious.

       I think the cutscenes are basically as accurate as they can be. It's certainly not a load of bull****, perhaps it's only half-truths. But Volition, or any storyteller wouldn't end a story with someone talking out their ass. What's the point of that?

        I suspect that a lot of whats in the final cutscenes is somewhat accurate, if perhaps a little misinterpreted on the part of the speaker. Don't want to tell the audience exactly what's going on. But rather, I'd want them for example to look back and say "oh yeah, that fits what he said".
