And btw, not all conductors are shiny or metallic.  One of my apartment mates was a chem major.  He knew some people in the university department that created a type of rubber/metal.  Moves like rubber, conducts like a metal.  Or at least, that's how I remember it.  And when a certain chemical is applied to it, it stops conducting.  So you can take a rubber-metal wire, and coat the outside in the anti-conducting stuff, to make it not conduct on the outside only....

(So you can make a conductor of any shape and size)

agreed. I mean, why not use them as a shield (short time) while the fighters and bombers come in from the side? or until they can get a lock? Can you imagine seeing them out there, 100 klicks away showing as a black smudge between you and the jump node? That would look cool and make people want to turn back. XD (or run them over only to find there's a meson bomb behind it! XD)

I was actually suggesting something serious. As in, beam-reflective armor that protects a ship from beams, but not bombs, flak, lasers, etc. Opposite of shielding, really

That makes sense, but, if you were to coat something like an Orion, noone will be able to find the turrets. Unless you're parallel with it. lol

Imagine having to take out turrets on the Orion. Yeah, you could use the targeting systems to find them, but say they use EMP? Targeting just went "kapoot". The next thing you know, your accelerating out of control and blow up.

I like the coating idea. but sacrid is right about the turrets (kinda) it would be almost impossible to find the turrets that don't stick out much. XD

But the anti-beam armour idea is great! =D

But my idea would probably work only on the side where the sun is. If the Orion is going towards the sun, then the back of it is not reflecting. That's the problem with it. And another thing, What about docking? What about repairs? How can they see where they're going or what they're frying to fix?

The only thing it would work for is cargo. Need to hide your precious cargo. lol

agreed. If anything needs an upgrade, it's the Myrmidon. they're useful and mildly old. but as nice as they are (my fav terran craft) they could use an upgrade. :3
