Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
1. Out of the Dark, Into the Night: No shields, good risk of being killed and manual targeting of a ship you can not detect.
2. A Failure to Communicate: a good mission where you are surprised by and having to protect 4 escape pods from 2 dragons or 4 basilisks.
3. Silence All Voices: a total disregard for the alliance, love it.
4. A Game of TAG: a game where you can be killed easily and manual aiming.
5. Into the Lion's Den: instant surprise as soon as you start the mission, and the shockwave from the shivan comm nodes.
Cowardice is no selfishness, Friendliness is no enemy and Information is no attack platform.

Judge these words wisely and you might make it through this cruel world.

I don't like Clash of the Titans II, because there was only one titan, the Bastion. It was nothing like the original... in no way a worthy successor.

They need to make the Nebiros attack the Bastion.

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
I liked it because it is a "feel the heat" type mission. But i agree it needed a Destroyer to make it a truly epic mission.

 Just had a massive Brainflash!

A bunch of us should get together and make a Redux of the FS1 and FS2 Campaigns - Sort of Descent: Freespace - The Great War Reborn and Freespace 2 Reborn....(Im getting impatiant waiting for ST:R)

Here's an example of the stuff i would do

Both contain fixes for arrival/departure cue and objective bugs

FS1 redux
*All Shivans capitals use beam and Flak turret (I played FS2 long before playing FS1 so Id always envisioned the FS1 shivans already using beams and Flak weaponary, I was sorely disappointed). Seriously, FS2 strength shivans would make the capaign more challenging
-Beams are exclusive to the shivans (barring the GTSD Hades) but no BFReds
-HLT Lucifer uses the FS_Ports beams as it's front mounted beams and one of the Blue beams from BP as its anti-planetry beams.
*Restores the lost mission from the Alpha build - Id place this right after the Shivans first appearence.
-Possibly change the SC Caldera to the SC Taranis
*Clash of the Titans has the GTC Gladiator's arrival cue corrected - posssibly have it disabled when the Lucifer went by earliar then getting pwned by the Tantalus' Broadside beam
*Eve of destruction extras from Demo restored
*Demo classes and wings restored to Small Deadly spaces
*Restore the "Chipping away at the boulder" missions against the Taranis and restore the act from the Ref bible about retrieving part of the Ancient Tracking device from HoL
*Completly remake Playing Judas - that mission seems like a Beta or a Silent Threat type mission
*Correct the continuity error from "Enter the Dragon" briefing by either changing the line so it refers to the Eva or having an "A Monster in the Mist" tpye mission against the Lucifer Early in the campaign

FS2 Redux
*Uses that Redux version of Their Finest hour that HLPer (Name please?) made
*The SD Nebiros attacks the Bastion in CotTII
-Also correct the Continuity error of a pilot refering to the SD Tantalus as the "SC Tantalus"
*Correct ship classes are used - There are a couple of missions where the briefing says you face one class of capital, but in mission the appropriate ship is a different class - Ie briefing says a Lilith but the ship is a cain (The great Hunt i believe)
*Saving Hauler 1+2 is bonus objective of into the maelstrom
*Alter the Arival cue of the second leviathan/fenris in "6th Wonder" so that it arrives after you take out the Diemos's forward beams

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
I absolutely detest the combination of beams and FS1, and was sorely disappointed by the Lucifer having beams in FSPort. So nyeah.

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission

I guess I know where you get your title from now.

Honestly, putting beams on FS1 Shivans would result in a complete gong show. What are you going to disarm those ships with? Phoenix V? It, like 9 out of 10 missiles in FS1 is complete crap. The Terran and Vasudan ships will get eaten alive without denting the shivan armour. The big problem with Terran and Vasudan capitals, is that their turrets target fighters first, not other ships. So even a Cain will cut into an Orion while the Orion wastes all its shots on Shivan fighters. God forbid you have to go up against a Lilith. And so far there's at least 3 of them in FS1 that I've noticed.

And really, do you want to fight the Lucifer in subspace while it's firing flak at you with no shields? Good luck with that buddy.

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
No flak nor beams in FS1 (Lucifer's SSL/Bombardment beams are fine, since the Lucifer is a plot device ship anyway and only really shoots what WILL die).

The FS2 suggestions are good though.

Meh it was only an idea...just forget it.... :sigh:

Wouldn't you rather spend your energies creating a brand new campaign, with your own unique story? Rather than modifying the only official campaigns, and creating something which no matter how good will never be fully accepted by the players? Just some food for thought. Silent Threat's a notable exception, because quite frankly it's not very good.

Personally, if it's a case of playing a brand new campaign, or playing the main campaign which has been modified for someone's personal flavour I'd take the brand new campaign. The problem is the "remade FS2 or FS1 campaign" is likely to be even more work than an official campaign, and involve even more criticism because people are so attached the original. And even if you do create some great new additions to certain missions, or create new missions, then you're left with a couple of missions which either don't have voice acting, or if they do, have voices which don't match any of the other missions at all.

Not to shoot down your ideas. Just being devil's advocate.

I agree, actually. Silent Threat was bad, although I don't know why it is very bad. I found myself using the Leech Gun most of the time (and I was thinking, "I thought this is the Circe's predecessor! Why is it so powerful?"). :blah:

I like playing new campaigns. It always makes a nice change. When I first played Inferno, I was also thinking along the same lines Alpha 2 was thinking when he/she saw the SSJ Gigas.

...speaking of which, now that I have FS2_Open running on my MacBook, I should give Blue Planet a whirl.

Having the Nebiros in Clash of the Titans II will result in a very dead Orion very quickly.

It would, yes, since the Orion is half-dead even before the start of the mission...

Perhaps a couple of Rakshasas would be better. :drevil:

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
No, Trebuchets will result in a disarmed Ravana very quickly. :P
You could also have it shoot the Aeolus Cruisers first to give the player more time.

And crap, I forgot that the Bastion doesn't have anti-cap beams...so that's not gonna work very well regardless.

Re: Favorite FreeSpace Mission
Well, you could think op of a solution for that.

Have an allied ship jump in an kamikaze the Ravana. That'd be impresive and would keep the feel that's at the end of FS2 campaign.

Or you could have bombers jump in, and you have to cover them. This'd make players panic.

Thats actually a good solution. It would give the final few missions that...."final battle intensity" if you know what i mean

Note, the nebiros should also show signs of being in battle - it jumped out in the middle of an earlier engagement to intercept the Bastion

[Nebiros jumps in and kills the Ertanax]

Which ever pilot is the young hotshot panics: Command! The Nebiros just jumped in. We're doomed...
Commands: (Shouting) Alpha take out the primary beam cannons NOW! We're sortieing(sp?) bombers. they'll be there in 90 seconds.
Malta: We cant hold out that long command. By the time they get here, we're be nothing but an expanding cloud of debris.
[Beams destroyed]
Templar: Pilots, cover us...[Goes on a collision cores with Nebiros}
This is the GTC Templar signing off! [rams the Nebiros]
[The nebiros suvives the collision but is heavilly dammaged.Shotly after self destructs from a reactor overload}
