good no-disk games?
i found out the other day that my library has a large collection of games. my parents said i can only get ones that once they're installed, they don't need a disk. I have supreme commander, but nothing else. needless to say, they can't be shoot-em-ups, or anything with blood/gore.

thanks

Ah, but that would require him to download stuff from the Internet. Illegal stuff. No can do.

Driver. There's a fun game. And I seem to recall playing it without a CD.

That has got to be the most innane and random restriction. Ever.

Y'know, Titan, I think you ought to just stick with Solitaire until you get your own PC.

Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 no longer require a disc to play if you can somehow manage to get the latest official patch.
(well, just joining battle.net will do this automatically :> )

Not necessarily. I know my parents used to get pissed whenever I'd leave a game CD in the drive. They always wanted the CD's put away.

Moot point now that I have my own machine, though.

I second the cd-crack, and I move to burn the DMCA so that it is legal to do so (as it should be).

Re: good no-disk games?
yeah, it should be legal. it's not like the cracks contain the game. you still need the game to use them. and if you want to mo your install of something you should be able to do it.

back on topic: all the descent games(rock btw), midtown madness (sucks btw). afew others can't remember.

Wait... when did it become illegal to use a no-cd crack?  :nervous:

Which reminds me. I've left my Overlord disc in my drive for over a week now ...

Using a no-cd crack is kinda on the grey line of things, like CD images. On one hand, you don't have to worry about CDs. On the other hand, this means 20 people can just buy one game and use no-cd cracks, or if they have the image, just use the image over and over..

i meant that it doesn't need a disk after installation. so i can play it after the one-week check-out period.  :doubt:

Yeah. Visit GameCopyWorld (can't post the link due to rules, Google it) and get the No CD patches for each game. It isn't illegal, and they're very easy to use. That will allow you to play most games, CD requisite or not.

maybe you should just copy the cd?

Well. You can always see if they have games like Total Annihilation. Iirc, it doesn't need a disk after install, plus its a pretty good game.

Oh, Dark Crusade of the DoW series needs no disk to play. You will need the CD Keys of the other games to play the other races though. PM me if you want them... Mmmm.... Can't really think of anything else atm.

A note of warning: always, always check no-cd cracks for viruses (virusi?). I downloaded a bad Battlefield 1942 RTR patch once. Caught it (auto-virus checker), but still....

-----

Alternate solution (not sure if this is illegal, shouldn't be as long as you own it), you could copy the disc image onto your harddisk and mount it with Daemon tools.

viruses (virusi?)
Viruzors

Most, if not all, of these options have a fundamental flaw: they include downloading software not made by Microsoft -> therefore Titan cannot use these methods. At least not in the next 8-11 years.

Ah, but they were codded presumably in C++ and in Visual Studios, making Microsoft indirectly their creator.

It's actually in a license agreement (which Congress ruled a person didn't have to sign for it to be binding) that the second you touch a keyboard (any keyboard) your body and anything it comes into physical contact with belongs to Microsoft.
