Hi all,
I am into astronomy and always loved space combat games ..  but played very few before (lik star wraith etc) as  I have not seen any impressive ones until this.  ( On my way to finding this site and FS; I hv seen X3, Independence war, freelancer, eve etc  .. X3: seem best to me till I saw FS )
And I learned that this game is  .. what it is because of community and open source code project :
so first a very big thanks to everyone here for every piece of effort in making it this nice and fantastic..

now, I tried to kno frm help, faqs, stickies etc but I still have few questions

I have managed to get retail FS2 .. so how much more  (approx) I will be downloading  (using Turey's FSO installer)
I heard total is lik 3.4 GB .. so how much GB's will I have to download now ?

My pc specs are Athlon Xp 1900+ (1.6 Ghz), 512 MB ram, Geforce FX 5200 128 Mb memory .. will I be able to play SCP and other mods  ?

I think the total is over 3 gigs. But since you have FS2, you've already saved over a gig's worth of bandwidth.

Of course. Concidering that FS2 was released in '99, any rig that is even remotely modern can run it. And the mods. The MediaVPs are another story but you should be able to handle them. My mum's desktop is pretty clsoe to your configuration and FSO plays just fine. Just that I've left AdvEffects out.

ok, so i will be downloading tonight .. is there anything i can skip in it and download later to complete the download asap ?? bcoz i cant wait to play fs2 scp after hearing so much praise about it & as well wanting somthing like it for so long  and other reason is i hv  2mbps net (though i get that speed only in night) .. dont kno how long will it take for it to download > 2 GB  (full retail FS2 took about 8 hrs roughly)

Basically you'll need

- the Launcher and the FSO executables (apart from the Mac and Linux versions)
- the MediaVPs, that make the game quite pretty
- FSPort, a mod that enables you to play the FS1 campaign and Silent Threat with the FS2/FSO engine (for the sake of the story).

The rest are user-made campaigns that you can safely skip now and possibly download later.

You would also be advised to read some reference material, such as Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ (link in my signature) to get an idea on how stuff works in FreeSpace. Mainly the article about mods and how to use them.
