Last news I heard was that McDonald's had an increase in profits in the States. Because due to higher fuelprices etc.. people are choosing McDonald's over going to a restaurant.

What does banning of trans fats has to with the end of fatty foods?

Most of the trans fats are just due very old but cheapo food oil industry (butter, margarin, refined food oils etc.) methods which apparently are still in use in the US (around here those processes were updated to better ones ages ago). Besides not all of the trans fatty acids are dangerous.. Some of them are even healthy, good fatty acids. It would be far better to ban partially hydrogenated oils (which are not healthy) than to ban trans fats in general.

Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.

Things are not as simple with fats as people tend to think... Its much more complicated than you probably could even guess. As i said partially hydrogenated oils/fats are bad but the again partially hydrogenated oils/fats =/= trans fats. Banning trans fats totally would mean banning milk and all related dairy products etc etc etc (search for 'vaccenic acid')

Re: will fatty foods be a thing of the past in the states?
im no scientist, all i know is any fat that can cause death that is removed is a great sign. of course media has been known to create false claims, i think they only meant partial tran fat, but even if it is full ban on such items, you maybe looking at soya milk and other forms of cheese and bread. if your afraid of such things, dont bother me by it because as long as the american health system get improved i will be more happy then even having a child, because my child doesn't compare to hundreds of kids and men and women that this can save. if you havent tried both sides you cant make a comparision.

i can though, i was once a fat eater, sweating a lot at at lower temperatures, loss of mobility, loss of wanting to go play outside because your depressed by the your frame, it really gets on your mind that your bigger then usual and woman find you a lot less attractive even so. however i changed when i moved to Jerusalem, i got myself into shape thanks to my wife, back then she was someone who wanted me to become something better and i did, i eat vegtables, little meat that has no fat and health oil alternatives along with soya alternatives and im far more fitter, a lot more happier then i have ever been, i am able to do things that otherwise i would be disadvantaged by and i regained my confidence. and that thick layer of cholesterol in the arteries next to my heart has dissipated over the time since i took down healthier options.

Many americans could use a dose of cold water and be woken up. its going to happen whether be it now or later...

From personal experience, eat whatever you like just so long as you get off your ass and get some exercise.

You can ban stuff all you want. But to really see a change, people have to decide for themselves to eat more healthy.

Re: will fatty foods be a thing of the past in the states?
Over the past two weeks, two things have been true:  I have begun exercising a lot more, and I have been eating a lot more (good and bad).  The result is that I have lost 10 pounds over 14 days, with significant muscle growth.

It's inactivity that should be banned, not foods that are high in fat content.

about ****ing time. but **** resteraunts. they should be doing this to all food manufacturers. you cant replace healthy ingredients with lard and expect noone will notice. all the corner cutting in the food industry (to boost profits) has rendered very few food items that are safe to eat without fear of getting totally obese, let alone nutritious.

id say sugar is just as bad. i recently replaced my cheap soft drinks for tea and juices, and lost 15 pounds, all in the course of a few weeks. i also decreased portions and started eating breakfast. i really havent made any major sacrifices either. you cant replace your bodily need for water with things that are essentially pure sugar, it just dont work.

Re: will fatty foods be a thing of the past in the states?
Plus the high fructose corn syrup they use instead of sugar to sweeten almost everything here in the US is bad for you at best, terrible at worst.

Just look at the difference in how things are made. Any of you people in the US ever had a UK Kit-Kat bar? Me neither until my little sis brought a few back from England. Wow...it's amazing how much better chocolate tastes when it's not covered in wax (it actually melts in your hand...a candy bar that melts). Same for Mars Bar and Milkyway (technically the same thing by the same company, worlds apart).

It's not just foods that are supposed to be healthy that are made worse by additives to cut corners/make it look better, but also foods that aren't so good for you are made worse.

I had a similar experience to Nuke: it's unreal how much weight you can lose by cutting out sodas (gotta watch what juice you drink, as some of it has just as much sugar as soda).

So true, BBQ is so incredibly better when the cows don't come from a factory.

im only drinking juice 10% of the time due to how expensive it is here. my main drink of choice now is iced tea with very little sugar. yea im loozing weight like crazy, it never seems to go up just down. its actaully pretty cool.
