X-wing Alliance problem- anyone else experience this?

An old game I know, but I still play it from time to time.

I recently re-formatted my hard drive, and when I re-installed XWA, it no longer recognizes my video card.

I know it did recognize it before, but for some reason, all it sees is the motherboards onbaord graphics chip, which can't play it for crap.

When I turn on the 3d hardware, tons of glitches show up. There's no target box, and stuff keeps disappearing.

My system specs are as follows

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 8600 gts
OS: Windows XP professional with service pack 3

disable your onboard graphics in the bios

Um.

I'm not exactly sure how to do that.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5ND2 series

i also downloaded the manual for the p5nd2 and could find no mention of onboard graphics

ps: do you have X-Wing Alliance Update 2.02

yep. The patch does nothing.

i'm not sure what is causing this. Like I said in the OP, I had it working fine before I re-formatted my HD.

It is a driver problem.

After downgrading to the 160.03 drivers, all the XVT engine games work fine on an Nvidia 8600 GTS

Mods can go locky lock if they want.
