I tried a search, but couldn't find anything (even though I could SWEAR I've seen this very topic here before).

I've made an artillery cannon for anti-capital ship use, which due to the fact it must travel a fairly long distance, has a speed of 750. In the premier mission you see it in, the player is tasked with destroying these cannons before they rip through a cruiser group. However once the player is nearer to the cannons than the cruisers, he becomes a target and since one hit (with blast) destroys all subsystems, he's effectively dead.

The stations firing these cannons have their own anti-fighter lasers (that are actually fair, lol) to challenge the player; how do I set it (preferably in the table) so that these turrets only fire at warships?

Basic question, I know...I'll continue scouring the forums for an answer, so I'm doing my part. :p

I thought it would be either "big damage" or "huge", or both.

That was my first instinct, but both of those deal with whether or not the weapon can deal the final damage to certain ships.

I'm rotating in every flag I can think of though...just to check.

EDIT: It seems that while "big ship" makes no difference, "huge" does the trick fairly well.

  • Sanity is over-rated.
Yes, "big ship" refers to what can carry the weapon, "huge" and others refer to what it can shoot at.

  • Forsee a new beginning.
The fact that 100 Erynes fighters armed with UD-8 Kaysers can't destroy a Hatchepsut but can reduce it to 10% hull in about a minute is absolutley ridiculous...

Surely you could also do something in FRED2 to make them only attack the cruisers?

Actually, they can reduce the Hatshepsut to 1% hp. The damage decreases with an exponential curve beginning at 10%. Furtheer damage is possible.

At the point where the hattie is at 1%, just lob a few trebuchets.
