This is something I've been working on for quite some time, and now that it is nearing completion, I figured I'd show it :)  I made a high-poly version of Aldo's GTF Aurora Interceptor (yes, this is the one from BluePlanet).  It is nearly done, but I still consider it WIP until it is converted (which will have to wait for a couple of things), so I am open to suggestions.

This is a render from Cinema 4D.  It's not quite up to date (missing a couple of details and smoothing)

Here is a more recent screenshot from SketchUp.

That cockpit is horrific. the rest looks nice though.

The cockpit has a lot of potential. It's just too pointy. I wouldn't round it off or anything, the struts just look lo-poly.

Other than that, great ship.

Looks pretty good, the cockpit needs work (I know this is the third time you've heard that) and it seems to be doing something weird just infront of the missile bays.  looks good other than that though.

Possibly end the cockpit at the upright. Make the  upright narrower otherwise it reduces the pilots forward fov. I think the glass area is too long for a one seat fighter.

I think another problem with the cockpit is the texturing. It's only one sorta grey colour, which doesn't match the rest of the hull. As a result it looks separate from the hull. I think you need to bring it more in line with the rest of the ship. At the very least, the forward portion, which should match the ship because it wouldn't normally articulate/move to allow access for the pilot. If that makes sense.

If I made the cockpit any shorter, it would be so close to the front of the fighter that I wouldn't be able to fit the pilot in.  It's a squeeze as it is.

For those of you still complaining about the cockpit, I made a comparison of various variants.  One how it was, one with the vertical struts narrowed, one with no struts at all, and the original low poly model just for comparison:

Heh - sorry  I meant the glass.

Not to mention that it would very very expensive to get a piece of glass to curve like that. Especially if it has to be airtight. In a vacuum. And survive collisions at 90 m/s.

I have doubts that the stuff even is glass.

Just look at the Perseus' bubble. Curved glass anyone?  ;)

I'll second Water's idea.

Personally, I like the one with the curved 'glass' better.
It looks awkward when it just....ends...and its completely f*cks up the curves on the whole thing.

Why would it be glass? We've had transparent aluminum since the 80s. Who needs glass.

As for the rest off the model it looks completed, very nice work.

just make it a little less pointy, and it'll work.
Sig nuked! New one coming soon!
