Operation Templar Date
I thought I saw a date sometime somewhere on Operation Templar. I'm curious as to when it took place because it appears to me the campaign is closer to the Freespace 1 era. There is no ship that wasn't in freespace 1, and the weapons almost seem to be "equivilants". The Prometheus and Kayser are available, even though the Kayser is a brand new weapon in FS2. It seems that really the Kayser is available because the FS2 tables lack the Banshee. The same goes for the available Circe and Lamprey cannons, as well as a few of the more advanced secondary weapons.

To this end, I'm currently doing a bit of a remake of it. I'm adding Lightspeed nebulas, skyboxes, etc, as well as attempting to re-balance the campaign for single player. I've thus far converted it for use with the Freespace Port because it appears to me to take place only a few years after FS1. If enough people complain, I'm sure I can put out a FS2 version, but I think it can work well as a Port campaign.

Thoughts? Anyone know when it takes place?

Re: Operation Templar Date
It takes place sometime after the formation of the GTVA. I think that's all we know about the time.

Re: Operation Templar Date
How do we know that? The campaign description reads a "joint GTA-Vasudan endeavor" and there is no mention of the GTVA in the campaign. The only indication would be the "GVD/GVF" designations on the Vasudan craft, but that just matches the ship names in the FS2 tables.

Re: Operation Templar Date
Yah, it's the first operation conducted by the newly formed GTVA, circa 2345. We know there are no FS2 era ships and no beam weapons, so we can assume there's FS1 era weapons available. We know there are flak guns, and it's probably a good idea for you to include a .tbm that adds the Prometheus R since the original Prometheus is also unavailable.

Re: Operation Templar Date
For some reason mentioning "newly formed GTVA" sparked my memory that I recall something mentioning what you said. Galemp, your information is correct now that I think of it, but I'm still looking for the original source of that information.

I'll probably add a .tbm with standard flak and the Prometheus R. Thanks Droid and Galemp.

Speaking of which, do we know when flak cannons were first introduced?

Re: Operation Templar Date
The Typhon is the only FS1-era ship with them. We know they're developed sometime after Silent Threat and active and widespread as of Operation Templar (every Typhon, GTVA and HoL, has flak) so they must have been a somewhat early Reconstruction-era technology. Might have even been an HoL innovation. So long as your conjecture doesn't contradict anything canonical, I think it's plausible enough that you can state whatever you like.

That's not quite correct. The Orion-class NTD Uhuru also has Flak Cannons. Though its unclear if that was a one-off upgrade, an NTF modification, or a less common upgrade to the Orion.

Re: Operation Templar Date
yeah, it also has one less BGreen...
Not worth the flak guns IMO, might be why its not common.

Re: Operation Templar Date
He might have been referring to the ships in Templar? The GTI Arcadia in the last mission has them, but none of the cruisers or transports or anything mount them.

Yeah, I figured as much but not having played the campaign I couldn't say. I tried playing it mutliplayer solo, but got my butt kicked in short order as I can recall. Never played FS2 multiplayer.

Needless to say, if you do make it single player you should have at least one person playing it (me).
