Stargate Universe - new show airing next year
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080822/tv_nm/stargate_dc_1

Quote
"Stargate: Atlantis" will not receive a sixth-season order.

"Universe" -- which will premiere as a two-hour movie in early 2009 and assume a regular hourly slot in the summer -- introduces a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. Unable to return to Earth, the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship, which has a preprogrammed mission taking them to the far reaches of the universe.

The show will involve more space-based action than "SG-1" or "Atlantis." With the "Star Trek" television franchise having folded in 2005 and Sci Fi's "Battlestar Galactica" airing its final episodes next year, the network hopes "Universe" will become sci-fi fans' new favorite space-travel series.

Mixed feelings about this. Sounds more like an attempt at money milking than anything else.

Re: Stargate Universe - new show airing next year
Dint Stargate: Atlantis kindy start like that they go throw the stargate to atlanis but could not go back to earth for some reson so they had to go to other place to get the parts they need to fix the stargate.  i dint see the first episode so im not shure  im not a huge stargate fan i watch it here and there when ever its on and there nothing else to watch

"Stargate: Universe," that will mark the third entry in Sci Fi's longest-running original series franchise.

I dont get this woulded startrek be the longest running original series franchise   it had 5 series 3 7 7 7 4=28sesons

TNG-aird from 87-94    DS9   93-99   Voyager 95-01   Enterprise 01-05  =25

since enterprise was a prequel i guess you can remove it you still have 21

Stargate 15 sesons 2 movies working on universe

startrek 28sesons  10 movies working on a 11th

 :wtf: :wtf:

FROM FS1
When the destroyers came for us, we attacked. Never had we been defeated. They were like the others: strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others: They did not die. We made our first retreat. We could forego one system. We left it to the destroyers and went elsewhere. But they followed. They hunted us. They followed us when we retreated, discovered where we lived.
For a long time we did not know why they chased us. They were no ordinary enemy. They did not seek our territory, our technology, our resources.
Now we know our crime was sin.

You can't really consider the first Stargate movie or series as "Sci-Fi 'Original'."

Re: Stargate Universe - new show airing next year
probably not however it was or still is the basis of sg1.

universe i made a remark about this stargate series about 1 week ago here. i said i am looking forward to it, however stargate universe probably wont remain uncontested for long, known star trek if they get their act together they might just pull off another few seasons before throwing in the towel and as for bsg, so they found a satellite a way to earth, a ruined planet so how does the rest of it pan out. and they said a dying leader will taken then to earth, lee adama??? or laura roslin???, will these cloned rebels continue working with or against?.

i think they meant by longest running franchise is how long they produced stargate sg1 10-12 years compared to startreks average of 8 years, they know they can do the same to atlantis, but it seems to be at a end end after s5. besides they are looking to future thinking star trek can not counter this and so they make the grandeur claim because of this also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Universe

i am a little confused about this caprica bsg spin off, when will that be aired?

as long as sci-fi profits from these ventures they will keep it. clearly atlantis is not giving sci-fi what it wants, money. as a consequence its being ignored unless fox,nbc or some other company will pick it up which is highly unlikely.

IMHO, Stargate was watered down too.. Atlantis did not appeal to me not even little, and the latter episodes of SG-1 kept getting worse - especially with half the original cast gone.

Re: Stargate Universe - new show airing next year
I'm actually very optimistic about this, unlike the rest of you, as having recently watched all 10 damn seasons of SG-1 and working my way through Atlantis' first right now, I really would like to see more of the Daedalus-class and the F-302s. (Though tbqfh Prometheus looked a lot better than the Daedaluseseses, but I suppose it was too big for mass production with Earth's resources.)

or probably too far advanced for humans to deal with, they need space stations or huge construction yards to build these things.

i have watched all sg1 3 times over in the past 2 years, so i can't be faulted their, i am currently buying atlantis seasons to find out about them next :P.

stargate atlantis has developed ugly ship syndrome. i wopuldnt be caught dead in one of their ships. goa'uld and asgard ships were damn beautiful, but everything else is butt ugly. puddle jumbers are ugly as ****, ancient ships are ugly, wraith ships are mediocre at best earth ships are just plain butt ugly. im glad they use the stargate alot because if i had to look at those ugly ships all the time id puke.

Wraith Ships are damn cool, Earth ships have a nice CVN feel, and yes Ancient ships are butt ugly.

The Prometheus is supposed to be considerably smaller than Deadalus class ships.

I don't see how there'll be more Earth ships if the show is set in other galaxies.

It says a lot about the show when the Hologram is the most "human" character in the show.  :D

Perhaps, but they sure as hell don't actually give that impression when you look at seperate shots of them. The fighterbays compared to the size of the rest of the Daedalus and Prometheus, assuming they're the same size, would seem to suggest the Daedalus may have nearly the same internal volume but in a much more compact hullform.

Yeah, I rather enjoyed atlantis, especially now that they brought robert picardo on. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, this is the same network that canceled Farscape when it was one of their best rated shows.

I thought the Prometheus was ugly as ****, then again it was just a prototype.

wraith ships are mediocre at best

They were cool in their own way, granted not as good as an asgard ship though.

"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
