Copy FS2 folder contents to cd's and paste?

Ok guys I have the SCP on my PC but i want to put it on my laptop. Instead of waiting overnight to download everything is it possible to copy the files of the freespace2 folder onto several CD's and just drag them onto the hard drive of my laptop?

Cool thanks....

The reason I am doing this is so I can play the game on my LCD TV in my room.

Has anyone played the game this way? Using the monitor hookups in back of the TV to play freespace?

I think it will be cool if it works. Joystick usb to the laptop and laptop VGA cable to the TV...

Yes, I tried it. It's a shame you can't also get sound coming out of the TV. Maybe you can do that with HDMI?

Since I lack a second monitor that's exactly what I do when I'm bug hunting. Saves me constantly switching between windows. :)

better still copy across using lan or using a hard disc drive its quicker..... my fs folder is huge i would use 2 many cds or dvds come to think of it, its nearly 10gb atm and i still have a few things to go in there

Wait... I knew there was a flaw and that flaw is that the sound wont come from the TV.

Does HDMI have sound? I also dont even know if my laptop has HDMI ports....

DAMNIT

This throws a kink into the entire plan becuase I have a badass stereo in my room and I was planning on utilizing it.

Actually I just remembered that I have used the headphone jack on my other PC's to output sound to my stereos before. Quality may not be the absolute best but it is at least in stereo....

The converter wires cost less than $10. And the sound quality will be no worse than the 2 speakers on either side of my monitor that I already played the games on in 7 years ago.

no HDMI ports on this business DELL laptop.

but the transfer from my PC to laptop took about 10 minutes total with my 8 gig memory stick...

CD's, HA!


ok but im having the openal32.dll problem and i forget how i solved it before

Can always use a 1/8 stereo to 2 1/4 inch mono RCA jack converter and hook it to the inputs on the TV.  Or just hook it up to the surround sound system.   :D

Darn, couldn't believe I got this far in the thread before someone suggested that.  But yeah, you should totally be able to patch the headphone out on the laptop to the stereo with the right adapter.  Might be able to use a 1/8" stereo to 1/4" stereo plug if your stereo has a 1/4" input, or headphone Y-adapter if it just has RCA plugs.

Yeah, a line out would be better but a headphone jack would work as well. If you have an optical or SPDIF out, you can hook those up to some home amplifiers and they'll give you the best sound quality you're going to get. However, not many laptops have those built in.
