So, my old THOMSON LYRA 2601, which I had for two long years, finally died ( RIP ), and now I'm deciding to buy a new music player.

First, I was searching for the lyra succesor, also from THOMSON, with same design, and with 2GB. I didn't succed and searching, since thomson stopped making these players. Dunno why, they seemed pretty good to me 

Secondly, I was thinking about EVOLVE DREAM 2GB, but got convinced by a friend to buy a EU3C INFINITY V500 2GB. That one literally DRAINED MY BLOOD with it's touchpad . I mean, when I put a player into my pocket, I don't want to switch 5 songs forward/back ?
Sure, you may argument with the "Block" function, but after a full minute of adjusting volume to suit my needs, do I need a "default" volume to rip my ears off and not being able to do anything with it?

So, today I've changed it for a EU3C INFINITY V100 2GB, since it had no goddamned touchpad, but simple buttons.
I'm currently uploading songs into it and frankly, I HOPE it'll do.

I may change it too, though :/
Which player would you have, if you hate touchpads and are not a rich person? Also, when you want a clear menu from which I can manage folders and choose songs?

I have a samsung yp-p2 an it's really good - no complaints

EdIT: it has a touchscreen but no problem w/ pocket+touchscreen=swearing plus you can put  hold on the screen without putting a hold on the vol/pwr buttons.

I has a Creative Zen V. Works, though the battery lasts for almost ten hours with one charge. And it seems to fail at recharging if an external HDD is plugged into the computer at the same time. But on the plus side, it sort of works as an external device and therefore no new and clumsy software needs to be installed.

And I assume that the newer Zens offer more with less money.

I have a Nexus XP-y5 or something XM reciever that has it's memory set to hold up to 3 hours of music.  We couldn't afford an Ipod, but we could afford 4 recievers and an account for my dad

I have a Sansa SanDisk e280 8gb, and IMHO, it's excellent. Plenty of storage space for me, plays videos, pictures, useless crap. It's a good mp3 player.

I have an 8GB Sansa Fuze, got it after my e280 v2 met my ATV's handlebars.  I really like it.  I just wish it had support for more than mp3/wma.

I love my 8GB Creative Zen. Never had any problems with it. The SD Card slot on the top is excellent, I put 8GB of anime on an SD card and I can watch it anywhere. It also works as an SD Card Reader if you put it into removable disk mode, so it's completely replaced my old USB thumb drive.

id really like an portable player that reads everything ogg etc but only really crappy ones or reallyy expensive ones exist, i had a portable dj studio player on trial for a week(pacemaker) its excellent it reads everything and is great for live mixing but at around 600€ they can keep it........
for portable music i use my eee it fits in me camo trouser pocket plays everything but then a gain using a subnotebook aint that portable lol

If'n ye be willin' t' shill out yer dough, then I be recommendin' th' Creative Zen Vision:M, wot has th' ability t' be playin' OGG Vorbis, WMA, an' MP3, and a bucket o' chum.  The winsome lass also plays a selection o' video formats wot's wider than me cargo barge.  He also be runnin' a 30 gig hard sail.

Well, about the iPod. I have no objections as to whether it is a good player, however, I had a player with the same design "EU3C INFINITY V100" and the volume correcting was just bad and hard to do :/
Also, the price is very, very high. I wouldn't be able to afford it

But, you were also talking about CREATIVE ZENS. Those appear pretty good at first glance, so I'll need some more hints about them. Like if the browsing is easy, if the volume can be adjusted easily, etc.

Creative Zen Stone 1GB. The original Stone, not the Stone Plus or the new Stone. I bought it at SGD$70, quite a steal, I thought. From the official Creative shop, too.

Neither of those Zens are available in Singapore tho, or at least, I've not seen them.

Zen V has the ususal, Album, Artist genre browsing. No subfolder unfortunately.* The volumes a simple enough side press-switch. UIt's got a good enough equaliser too. The OLED colour screen can chew through the power if you set the contrast too high. Just counter it with screen 5-sec cut off. One thing i really do like about this player though is the way i can flip the display through 90,  180, or 270 degrees.
Also comes with full picture viewer whcih you can use to set backgrounds.



It feels better in your hand than an I-Pod too.


*Of course it shows in my computer (or equivalent) and the Creative software has a complete playlist creation suite in which you can use whole folders as well as individual songs.

Thanks for help, colonol, you were talking about the player having no subfolders. Does that mean I cant do the common "MENU -> music -> choose artist -> choose album" thingy?

You probably know what I mean, it's about the navigation. I know a lot of players ( that dont have menus ), just play one of the randomly arranged 150 songs, in which I can't navigate at all unless I don't skip like 100 songs. And that's just bad
