What is the "main hall index" box used for?

Is there a set of instructions or a tutorial on the use of the campaign editor?

Guessing on this one but it's most likely the FS2_Open version of choosing either the Galates or Bastion in retail. 

There is the FRED documentation in the data\freddocs folder.  While it doesn't have those feature listed it has the basics.

It is indeed. 0 is the Aquitaine while 1 is the Vasudan main hall IIRC. Of course that changes if you're using the FS1 port, etc.

Am I the only one who finds the Bastion main Hall to be the best one?

Nope, i also think out of all the mainhalls (fs1 & fs2) The Bastion is exemplary, i jst wish i had the chance to see if the Galateas hangar looked similar.

You mean, being able to see a different part of the Galatea? I'd imagine it would look pretty much the same.

Yeah. But if it had a similar colour scheme (not so much yellow
