A German dentist forced his way into a patient's home and ripped out two dental bridges from her mouth because she hadn't paid her bill.

The dentist from the Bavarian town of Neu-Ulm is being investigated for assault and the theft of the 35-year-old's teeth after arriving at her home on Tuesday morning (AEST), the UK's Telegraph reports.

According to police, the dentist knocked on the woman's door before forcing her into her living room where she was tied up.

He then allegedly forced her mouth open and extracted the $700 dental work her insurance company had refused to pay for.

"The dentist is being investigated for assault for the way he forced open her mouth, and theft for taking the bridges," police spokesman Christian Owsinski was quoted as saying.

"The woman was in pain when she showed up at the police station."

The dentist, who has not been named, had not been arrested, Mr Owsinski said.

If convicted, the man faces disciplinary action from both the dental association and the health insurance company.
