BSG Pilots and Diaspora
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce BSG Pilots to those who might have not heard of it as well as hope to forge a good relationship between Diaspora and BSG Pilots.

BSG Pilots was founded in August 2007 with the objective of becoming a hub of Beyond the Red Line gamers, offering a chat room we named "The Launch Tube" where players could meet and arrange games since BtRL did not have an in-game lobby. It also served as a neutral ground for BtRL fans to voice their opinions freely on our forums. Later on, when BtRL started to lose fans and popularity and people started getting bored of the demo, BSG Pilots started to change it's mission to encompass more than BtRL in order to survive and not die like the BtRL gaming clans. At first we started supporting other BSG games such as the Homeworld 2 mod "Fleet Commander" and even Sierra's pathetic little arcade game. As more mods appeared, such as the mod for Crysis, we started covering news of such mods. Eventually however the entire BSG gaming community stagnated. There was nothing to be excited about anymore. Fleet Commander was not very popular for some reason, perhaps it was some of the bugs that pleagued it. BtRL stopped releasing new content after the demo or even giving any updates at all, and BtRL fan FREDders were starting to run out of ideas for missions and campaigns having only Vipers and Raiders and Tillium ships to work with.

Thus began BSG Pilots evolution into one of the premiere BSG news and fansites upon the start of Season 4 of the show. We held weekly discussion events right after each ep aired on Fridays, and we grew at a right of about 30 to 40 members a month. With time, BSG gaming became secondary and the BSG show and movies took over.

However, the other day our "Sim Room", the forum dedicated to BSG gaming had a new post. A rarity these days. The thread title simply read "Diaspora". And there was Kara announcing this new mod and linking BSG Pilot folk to the Diaspora website.

A new beginning for freespace 2 BSG gaming, so why not a new beginning for BSG Pilots. Indeed BSG Pilots fully supports Diaspora and we offer our services in any way that we can help. As I said BSG Pilot's original mission was to be a hub of BSG gamers that could meet in a neutral environment, discuss every BSG game and mod freely, as well as use our services such as our Launch Tube Chat to arrange games and talk about the mods and games in real time.

At BSG Pilots we are hoping that BSG gaming will once again become a major part of our site. We wish to keep a good relationship with the Diaspora Dev team.

BSG Pilots can act as the multi-player hub for Diaspora gamers. People can use our Launch Tube chat to meet and arrange games, as well as discuss the mod in real time. We also offer our Calendar and forums to arrange events, and we can even sign up at battlestats.com to keep track of scores in competitive events.

I dont think I will have time to be behind it all, but we can appoint staff to our Gaming department to take care of such things, and perhaps have Liasons with the Diaspora dev team.

Either way, I'm sure we will figure something out. Just wanted to get the word out about BSG Pilots.

I've always sent people to BSG Pilots to organise games, etc and I think it does good to have an unofficial site for people to just chat about the game openly without fear of annoying the devs.

BSG pilots was actually the first place I linked to here since I knew that was where some of the biggest fans had gone. :)

Interesting!  Didn't know anything about this organization and the fans that sprung up around BtRL.  A pretty good idea actually!

BSG Pilots's Gaming aspect started dying out along with BtRL and the gaming clans that supported it, however, we do hope Diaspora will change things for the better for us as well :)

Hopefully our Launch Tube will get croweded with BSG Pilots once again :)

With the announcement of a new BSG game with Capships AND a better Netcode IN the first release we could easily become "Overcrowded ", i wonder if we have enough room for all pilots...:D

Make sure you do grab the remaining BTRL fanbase, you can't depend on them just stumbling across it. (not implying that you're not doing anything, I just don't know what you are doing)

I'd like to stress the fact that we do not want to grab or steal BtRL's fans. As far as we are concerned, people can play and enjoy both games.

We have organized the BSG Pilots BTRL Gamenight, every Friday 6pm GMT onwards, sometimes with success, everything else said Adalla in his post.
On 'good' weekends, we had up to 6 servers running at the same time ( 3 or 4 of 'em full ).

The last months have been really quite, mostly due to probs with lag and the lack of new content and the fact that beginners had 'luck' to play with advanced players who had played almost every day, that's a bit discouraging.

I don't see a reason why not to organize game nights, and other events, for both games.
Granted, Diaspora has a advantage over BtrL ( netcode, Capships, episodic releases - people will get new content earlier...), but abandon BtrL completely would be a mistake, imo.

There is enough room on this world for two BSG games.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
BSG Pilots has nothing against the fans of BtRL. We only officially stopped support of BtRL due to their lack of respect for the fans. They did not respect us and so we do not respect them.

But as I said, that is only the official stance of BSG Pilots. Our members are free to do as they wish. And by officially not supporting BtRL that implies that the Staff of BSG Pilots will NOT be hosting gaming events for BtRL or reporting news regarding that mod. We will however be hosting Diaspora gaming events and supporting Diaspora in every way we can.

This is a simple message to those people who think that they can get away with mis-treating others and thinking they will somehow force people to support them just because they are making a good game. No, the ability to model or code well is worthless during the development of a game if you do not respect the fans which are so loyal to you and trying to support you.

Having said this, BSG Pilots members are free to use our Launch Tube chatroom to organize events for BtRL. But the BSG Pilots Event Department (and all other Departments) will not be supporting BtRL.

We do encourage fans to have some self-respect and support Diaspora, which unlike BtRL, seems to be off to a good start as they have listened to the wishes of the fans and respect them and are willing to treat them like equals, not like garbage.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
Begging the fact that most hardened BTRL/BSG game freak fans were dissapointed at the slow leak of info which resulted in sometimes ma month without any isea on what was forming tended to push many fans away, which in all due honesty sucked my hat goes off to all the hardcore and dedicated devs that made the tough decision on what was needed to get any progress done at all ... must have been difficult but hey hard times and hard decisoins do make it a critical time... i believe Dia crew has made the proper choice to cater to the fan base even more so ,. they are the real fans who commit themselves to the project.. much respect to Kara and the crew

on another note id just like to say wow guys keep it coming ur doing a immense job and its looking very sexeh !

The Freespace 2 and the Battlefield engines have nothing to do with one another. One is a FPS engine the other is a flight sim engine.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
Adalla thinks Mobius suggested that they should've turned BtRL fans into fans of other Galactica mods.

In fact, Mobius is encouraging you guys to branch out into other FS2 mods and Freespace itself -- which are beautifully alive and well.

Yeah, thursdays TBP, on weekends BtrL, hadn't the chance to play the last 6-7 weeks, though.
I also played WC Saga ( love it!! ) and tried the Mp demo from the Star Wars Conversion.

To my shame, i have to admit i never played FS2 ( FS open ).
As soon i get the weird DL error fixed, i'll check it out, SP and MP.
With all the campaigns for FS OPen, you could easily spend a couple of weeks, only playing. :)
Not that i have that much time to play, the missions i FRED atm, are eating time.

As soon the VP ( Sparky ) reaches 170Mb the DL stops. Tried it a couple of times, always the same result.
