problem with derelict

During combat, when i shoot at enemies instead of the normal shield graphics, i get blackness. Also, when the ships explode, there are little black squares that spread out. Why does this happen?

Get the 710 patches for the MediaVPs. And update your graphics drivers. That should resolve it!

Do you have the MediaVPs in a separate 'mediavps' folder?

Place the patches in there.

Are you using the 3.6.8 mediaVPs?

Don't worry, we'll walk you through everything.

yeah, i already have them placed in there. it doesnt seem to work. should i put it in the data folder? or just the general mediavps folder? also im grabbing all the mv packs too. models, textures, adveffects etc. Where should i put those?

also the shots for the subarch cannon dont appear. i see the impact, but not the shots themself

Ok, i'm just going to ask this arbitrarily, are you using D3D or OGL?
Derelict SCP shouldn't NEED MVPs to run.

Except that the Luxor/whatever is positioned incorrectly without the MediaVPs.

jkalltheway, run a debug build, find fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\ and post it here.

The 710 patches for the 3.9.8 mediavps. should already have been done when downloaded via the FSO Installer, last time I checked.

i ran the installer when i installed freespace, and derelict, awakening, etc came with the entire package. mediavps were also in there. How would i run a debug build? Also i think i'm using OGL if OGL is opengl

Open the Launcher. Click Browse. Select a build (an .exe file) that ends with _debug or _d. Click Apply. Run until the game crashes or you reach the Main Hall. Quit. There should be a file called fs2_open.log in \freespace2\data\ now. Post it here as an attachment or using the code tags.

Move these to \freespace2\Media_VPs\. Then, since these are the 3.6.8 Zeta MediaVPs, get the patches (this and this). Place these .vps to \freespace2\Media_VPs\.
