Storyline ideas for a Starcraft mod
As the title says if you have any idea's for a Starcraft mod, detailed or brief, you can put them here. It would be best if you have some knowledge of the either SC1 or Brood war before posting any idea's that you may have.

Well, the logical place to start for a campaign would be SC1. The first mission[besides the needed training for this] would probably be the Terrans trying to halt the Protoss bombardment of Chau and Mar Sara[I would assume there would be local resistance]. Protoss do have beams for bombardment from orbit[aka 'Purifiaction]. The Terrans obuviously would be forced to retreat. :lol:

The later battles would continue to follow the story, such as more orbital battles against protoss and platform/land battles against protoss/zerg

An interesting idea I had was to have the campaign played from all three viewpoints, such has the Protoss defending the space above Aiur. However, there is a modest lack of information about SC space battles, so much would have to be story based conjecture.

As far as ideas for models, Protoss ships would primiarly have fighters for defense, but very strong shields. Could also use beams/missles. Terrans would primiarlly use rapid fire lasers for fighter defense [new rapid fire weapon model likely needed], and larger lasers[battlecruiser yamato and smaller anti-cap batteries] as well as nuke missles[hypothetical, but logical and fits, as long as tactical type]. Zerg would primiarly use, well I don't know what you would call their bio-weapons. Lots o new weapon models needed there.

That's all I want to type for now. Good luck digesting it :D

I thinks I am done digesting it (took me a minute) and I have to say I like the idea. There are a lot of gaps to fill in, but I'm sure it'll happen over time.


Q: Did the Protoss have the Carriers in SC1 or was that just for Brood war?

The Protoss's carriers have been the staple of their fleet for centuries! :lol: But yes, in SC1, they have carriers. And yes, there are a lot of gaps. But SC is a strategy game, not space-sim like FS. It's to be expected.

(Sorry on the lack of knowledge) but did the Protoss and Terrans fight all that much? I know the Zerg was the main enemy but I wasn't sure if the Protoss and the Terrans fought together or against eachother.

Some points to bring up. If you're gonna keep this within canon SC limits, the Terran fighters/capitals have no shields, and both the Protoss fighters and capitals have shields, not surface shields, but actual bubble shields.

Also, the only Protoss to side with the Terrans were those under Zeratul and Tassadar. Assuming you are following the SC storyline, which I advise against, the Protoss for most part would be against the Terrans. Also, the missions would most likely be played from a Terran point of view, defending against the Zerg.

The problem here is that the Zerg were usually already on planet when the Terrans encountered the Zerg, meaning it would mostly be land battles. The only major space battles I can think of off the top of my head would be the invasion of Aiur and battle at the Dylaran Shipyards (BW).

Also, I highly advise against making the Zerg playable. Mostly because the Zerg are creatures, and have no 'pilots' of any sort. There's almost no way to make it workable.

I agree with the Zerg idea. The story could follow bits and pieces of the main SC storyline, but most of it would have to be newly planed out.

Other space battles could be when Raynor and whoever else it was, when they enter ships in space (I'm pretty sure there was atleast one level like that) you would be outside the ship, fighting off Zerg, Protoss and other Terrans. Just an idea to fill in the gaps. :D

I'm still somewhat against making the storyline close to the canon one, because it might cause some problems with the canon storyline.

Do you mean lots of open gap problems, or do you think that it won't follow/stick to the SC storyline very well...?

Well, the issue with creating a storyline that involves canon characters has the problem that it might cause continuity errors with regard to the canon. So I'd advise creating a storyline total independant of the canon one.

Sorry ive been gone, Ive been catching up on TBP, so if I'm reading this right, basically have the campaign use SC ships and stuff, but create a completely new story line, right? Well, guess we'll need a good writer.

More as you need more capable modders and FREDers. Only after you have both will the project become feasible and you can start looking for writers.

Actually, you'll need good modellers, textuerers, FREDers, writers, good C3, and dedication and motivation.

I would highly reccomend at least trying out some of the FRED Academy's missions before embarking on making a TC. At least you'll have a rough understanding of FRED's abilities.

Well, I do have a good understanding of what FRED can do and how to do it. But I don't know about dragon. Where is he anyway?
