Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Dammit. I could have swore I put an extra Vasudan fighter in there. I didn't remember the Ptah so I assumed that was it. I suppose there is no new Vasudan fighter then.

EDIT: Homonym fail

AHA! It was the GVF Heset! Although I never was able to get a hold of a table file so I could not implement it. (My skills outside of FRED remain quite poor as ever)

The download on FSMods has no table, though tables, I find, are quite easy to do (copy-paste-edit jobs for the most part).
I could throw a rudimentary one together for you if you want, but it won't be balanced at all.

After looking into the matter it looks like something I could do, but It seems like I'm going to need my remaining slots for a mystery Shivan fleet. Thanks for the offer, though!  :)

December to March is pretty much my window.

I think he means do you plan to release it at the beginning of 2009 or at the very end of 2009. January - March of 2009 vs December 21st - 31st of 2009. But I know what you mean because winter always means January - March when talking about terms.

Ahhh, durr I wasn't thinking. December 2008 - February 2009 is the window I should have specified. I also should not have said "winter" because I forget there is a whole southern hemisphere to this planet. Time to edit the first post again.  ;)

Every single ship on my table is going to be used!

And why do you assume the Iceni, Boadacia, and Colly are out?  :p

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Alphard goes to Alphard... Unless of course this is an intra-system jump node that is major or long-distance enough to have a place on an inter-system nodemap.

Again, this nodemap was made by IceFire 8 years ago. It was the only one available to me when I begun work on my campaign. Fortunately, it syncs perfectly with the canon nodemap for the part I'm using. The only non-canon stuff in this nodemap is the Warzone/Derelict stuff in the Northwest, while my campaign takes place in the southeast.

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,57672.0.html

I assumed Alphard to be a binary system.

As for backgrounds, consistency purists are going to throw a fit with my campaign. I just made systems look pretty and appropriate to the mission. I didn't cross reference with the canon FS2 missions except for really important systems like Capella, and for obvious things. (Betelgeuse is big and red)

I figure if they're not going to bother to make the systems accurate to reality in the first place, why should I bother to make mine accurate to them?

As for an actual update, all the missions are complete and thoroughly self-tested, with the exception of three missions I can't play because of a damn bug involving AI chasing invisible asteroids forever.

So, upon the release of the next mediaVP, I will polish the three missions within a few hours, create the campaign file, package it in a .vp, and deliver it to beta testers. I've had two people already volunteer, and I'd appreciate more.  :)

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread

Come on people! I currently only have only one beta tester and he won't be able to test for a week.

Please, send me a PM and help me beta test!

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Currently have three beta testers and they are each doing a hell of a job. However, they are being very through and finding plenty of bugs, so don't expect a release until at least the next couple of weeks. They need time to complete their testing and then I'll need about a few days to fix the bugs and replay it a final time.

*bamp*

Alright..... Its been too long. Some beta testers have not gotten back to me, so I'm going to proceed without them. Expect release in about a week or so.

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
even I.

You did the right thing in urging the community to contribute. However, I am not of the opinion that campaigns are released and then testing is done afterwards.

If new people who join end up playing a campaign with bugs, they might get the wrong impression of an otherwise excellent campaign. They might not know all the effort that is undergone to get it out...

Anyway, these are my thoughts, feel free to do what you feel like :)

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Okay then, PMs and emails have been sent to the two above people. Welcome to the beta team!

Release date extended for a few more weeks.

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Okay, here's my first report.  The first mission is flatly impossible.   :wtf:  I'll PM the rest after I've played it a few more times so there won't be spoilers in this thread, but Jesus, there's not a whole lot you can do with that unless I missed something.

Edit:  Allow me to revise my previous statement:  It's impossible with the default loadout; it becomes merely insanely hard if you switch to a better fighter.  All my wingmen were destroyed within the first two minutes either way.

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
No it isn't. I won it the first time round...

Actually, it would be nice to have a private forum either here or in freespacemods in order to discuss the content.

Re: Relentless Progress Update Thread
Yeah, it just kind of seemed like it with the fighter swarm.

I've got to say that so far the plot isn't making much sense, but maybe it'll come together with more missions.  Also, the dialogue is in severe need of a spelling and grammar check.

Edit:  Okay, reality check time.  Plot spoilers ahoy!

Spoiler:
Why in hell would the GTVA leave your admiral in command of the Kiev when he's on trial for a capital crime?  And after finding him guilty, why would they sentence him to death and then leave him in command until the end of the campaign, with him knowing he's going to be killed when he gets back?  Seriously, do they want him to defect?  Because that's the logical course of action for him to take, knowing that he will die if he returns.

Edit 2:  One more thing.

Spoiler:
Jesus tapdancing Christ, this is ridiculous!  The admiral turns traitor, and Snipes is confused, and then goes along with it once he explains?  And apparently you do as well?

Well, so much for the plot critique.  One technical issue I noticed is that Shivan red beams do not show up; the beam emitter glows red and stuff blows up, but the beam isn't visible.

Spoiler:
Yes, they want him to defect so they can discover the full extent of the rebellion. You go along with it because you don't have much of a choice. The only other life forms out there are Shivans, and if you tried to join them it would be a fairly short campaign. You'd be shot if you tried to desert.

rbxplayer is right, dude. Mission 1 isn't that hard. I have it calibrated to what it should be, so you may want to try it on "easy" or "very easy". I find it somewhat challenging on "normal", and almost impossible on "hard".

Spoiler:
Don't fly directly into the enemy fighter formations. Thats what your wingmen are for. Also, Vasudans come to reinforce you after some time.

The Shivan beams not showing up is an issue with your SCP/MediaVPs you should be using the latest nightly build and the 3.6.10 official release.

Keep going guys.  :)

Shivan beams have a consciousness of their own, and if they don't like you they won't show up. You must pay homage to them by sacrificing a goat and then they might become visible. If the positions of the Moon and planets are favourable.

Seriously though, the shivan beams always seem to be a problem in one way or another... Does the mod have a weapons table that modifies beams at all? If not, you might want to check your mediaVP status, since the beams definitely do work on 3.6.10 MediaVP's.
