Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
It amazes me how some of you are able to horde up stuff you're unlikely to ever use again. The stuff that I have backed up only amounts to less than 200MB. The rest I either have no use for or I can download them again should I need to.

Trouble is, it often disappears from the net never to be seen again.

"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

And I have to do it with a 160GB hard-disk, which has been filled to to the top 5 times over again.... Seriously, big hard drives are for people who are too lazy to do something about resource management.

Sometimes I take a look at C: and delete old/unused/useless stuff.

Computer deaths are pretty common for me - one in summer 2007 and another one in summer 2008 - so they do most part of the job. :blah:

Great example:  Earlier this year I ran into someone that loved the original Xcom game but had lost it years ago.  I had it zipped up sitting on my file server in the same place it has been since 94.  Different file server but same volume and directory.  Had a harder time finding 3 good floppies to put it on.

My hard drive can hold a (sarcasm) whole 50 gigs, with 5 gigs left.  I don't even have enough memory to run a defrag.

Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
I'm the opposite of most people here. I have a 250GB drive that is pretty small by today's standards, but I have not bothered to buy more drives since it's barely half full. I delete downloaded installers as well as larger (5GB or more) games that I'm not playing regularly, although I keep all the savegames and config files. I also clean out the Windows temp folders every now and then, which can become surprisingly big if you don't pay attention to them for a long time.

I used to keep all my installers and included them in my backups at one point, which has been a huge time saver for me many times in the past, but game patches and custom content have become a lot larger over the years and my stash eventually became too big for this to remain practical. Now I only keep the download if the file took me a lot of effort to find.

Kudos to anyone who has a 1 PB hard drive. At this rate, having a half-terabyte hard drive will be common in the next decade.

Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
I have a good twenty-some burned DVDs lying around full of backed-up files, the vast majority of which consist of various animu and music.  My 320 GB drive still has 170 GB free, since most of what I have backed up isn't on here at the moment.  I don't have very many PC games to speak of, so even if I did have them all installed, I'd still be sitting on a crap-load of empty space.

Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
My old Mac had a 160MB drive. Disk space was sometimes an issue on it, as the games back then were small but not small enough, and there were also a lot more games in general. The biggest games weighed in at 5MB or more and a bunch of those could quickly load up the drive.

i had a IIGS without a hard drive

I had 2 hard drives on my IIGS and even had one on my II+  (became one of the ones on the IIGS). Still have it somewhere.  That thing is huge.

BTW:  I still both the II+ and IIGS and as far as I know they both still work.

Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
I've always had hard drive trouble. Although I managed to clear out to almost 4 GB free on my desktop (40 GB hard drive), I still have trouble with my laptop (around 50 GB), even though I have two 320 GB external hard drives. Many times I fill my remaining space on my laptop's C partition from FS2 screenshots! (They go to one the external drives.) I'm currently on screen3777.tga.  ;7

Also, sometimes when I'm on the Internet, the space on the same C partition starts shrinking rapidly, causing alarms to start ringing, then suddenly the space comes back. It just happened again now. I have no idea what does it. I should run another virus check over the weekend...

Re: Holy christ, what have I done...
I have 180 GB in my desktop, and 80 and 100 in my laptops respectively (well my mother's, but I use them mostly). My external is 250 GB.

The desktop doesn't have much on it, about 10 GB worth of replaceable stuff, mainly torrents. The larger laptop has a few HD movies, which I delete once I watch them. The small one is empty, just a few school docs. My External has the complete BSG, season 4-5 of Atlantis, and the SG1 movies. It has a few distros from time to time, and usually some school work.

I only really have about 30MB of irreplaceable stuff, as well as my 250MB Funny Pictures folder, now 1800 strong.
