Trashman, I would've thought you would have liked it -- they cut out most of the mysticism and prophecy.

And it was daringly bleak, as well.

You're more than welcome to not watch it if you like.  The rest of us are completely content with keeping up with what is arguably one of the best sci-fi television series to date.

In other words you're unable to explain it to us, why is unclear, but either you cannot properly articulate your reasoning or you're afraid we have better reasoning? :p

Oh, I can very well describe why I don't like it (in very excruciating detail), but it would end up an essay and trigger a barrage of flame towards me.

Then don't. Don't respond to this either, just leave the thread alone... if you can. :p

Im no flamer, and yet I am intrested. Most people here are reasonbly nice, actually. It is just that the flamers stand out so much. But they suck anyway. So...

See, flaming and disagreement are not the same thing.

I'm interested on what TrashMan has to say on the matter since I may agree on him(not entirely, though).

Also, everything he can do is to accuse BSG's creators. He won't be flaming any fellow HLP members if not provoked.

TrashMan, if this thread is not the right place to discuss the subject, you may send me a PM with all the "details". I'm curious. ;)

Then why don't you guys make an "I don't like BSG because..." thread? That would be perfectly acceptable; we just don't want to get into that in this thread.

Just saw it and.......****. Question, were the ones who nuked earth and kobol the same party?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Who would that be? Kobol is the birthplace of Humanity, both the Cylons and the Humans lived there. Although the thirteenth tribe left a little earlier, as I recall... Although I might have forgotten something.

Oh well.

All will be revealed.

Because this thread is named "people who worship BSG"? .
Well, I guess the drooling part of the name implies no other opinnions except for glorifying the show is allowed.

Re: *drool* The Epic Journey BSG 4.5
It does raise the question of how the Cylons would have fared had they not managed to infiltrate the colonies, from what I've seen, without that advantage the BattleStar fleet would have pretty much torn the Cylons to pieces, since a single Battlestar seems capable of engaging multiple Basestars without too much trouble, even the Galactica, an old vessel badly in need of repair and with limited fighter compliment was ok with tackling two of them at once, and two Battlestars were quite happy with jumping into the middle of a Cylon battlegroup and gutting it.

In both cases, though, the base ships' Raider compliments were first drawn away. Don't give those critters short shrift.

That's true, but if you have around 40-80 pilots and 40-80 fighters only, and no reinforcements from the homeworld, you change tactics.

Pegasus was able to destroy a Basestar with one or two volleys from the forward canons/ launchers.
Galactica was pounded by 4 Basestars in the orbit of NC for a long time and survived.

The main advantage of the Cylons is their HUGE fighter complement ( around 1000, they don't have Flak, it seems they use half their fighters to intercept incoming missiles) and the ability of their Basestars to spam Missiles.

Re: *drool* The Epic Journey BSG 4.5
Yes, which is why the Colonials have only had any success when drawing those Raiders away.

In both cases the Cylons got overconfident and sent their whole Raider force after what they believed to be critical targets.

In both cases the Cylons got overconfident and sent their whole Raider force after what they believed to be critical targets.

The Cylons effectively use the Raiders as a shield to protect them by focusing the Battlestar's guns against the Raiders, but experience in the show suggests that in the end, a Battlestar can wear the Raider screen down in attritional combat and then take on the Basestar. Something like this happened in Scattered, when Galactica's Viper complement was only at half strength. By the time the Vipers were recalled to the ship they had clearly gained the upper hand against the Raiders. The Captain's Hand suggests that a Pegasus-class ship is capable of simply bulling its way through a Raider screen to inflict critical or even fatal damage against a Basestar.

Admittedly, both Pegasus and Galactica (plus their Viper complements) are absurdly veteran by that point, but the evidence is not encouraging for the Cylons.

Not sure about that, there's no clear evidence either way.

Scattered depicts Galactica's fighter screen as so leaky that a major target slips through along with plenty of conventional Cylon ordinance. There's not even discussion of firing on the base star.

The Captain's Hand involves a battle at knife-fight range against an enemy made cautious by the lack of a Resurrection Ship.

Fankwankery about the effectiveness of Raiders one way or another is pretty pointless for now, but my gut feeling is that the raider/base ship teamup is very powerful -- much like today's carriers.
