The Royal Society of Chemistry is having a go at it for deliberately dropping standards to improve appearances of pass rates.

In our Year 11 Physics class we could pass the complex part as long as we got one mark. But that's a C, which, as I'm sure you know, is just a sound. The other two bits you could fail.

But that's Australia, not UK.
