Jump to a different location when passing through a warp hole?
Overall, is it possible to appear to leave one location and appear in a completely different area of space when passing through a warp hole?
Do or do not, there is no try...

Yes.  Not exactly sure of the entire sequence required but controlling the player as AI and turning hyperspace on then back off while removing the old background and adding a new one.

Anyway it can be done.

Couldn't you just make the screen black (like a cutscene SEXP) and while it's black, warp you into another area of space FAR away where you can't see the other ships, or would it be more reliable and less work to do it the other way?

All depends on what you are trying to do.  If you just want to move the ship with the same background then yea you could do that.

Different background, different ships and all. I want it to be like going on to the next mission, but without the break for it to load.

If your changing all that then you might as well go with the switching to subspace and back as an in mission cutscene.  Just remove the old background and pop up subspace.  Use some camera sexps to show the player entering/exiting subspace.  You could still move the player ship if you want to leave the other ships there but out of range.

It's been done before so I know it's possible.

Re: Jump to a different location when passing through a warp hole?
I've got it working pretty well, but i have one problem i just can't figure out. The problem is this: I want the player to have the choice of whether he wants to jump out once he reaches a certain object. Then if the player clicks the certain button specified to have him jump out it takes you to a different area of space. You go to another certain object in that area of space and you can then jump from there to where you started out. Once that is done, I want the same thing to happen again (the player having the choice of being able to chose whether he wants to return to the 2nd area of space.) But I can't for the life of me figure it out.  All it does is opens the warp-effect but the event chained to it doesn't activate. Hope the screenshot helps. :)

When you say that the event below doesn't activate do you mean that the Directive doesn't appear at all, only appears when you've pressed Alt-G or appears but never changes to completed when you press the key?

Re: Jump to a different location when passing through a warp hole?
I approach the target to activate the "Jump to Endoros system" event, but after the second time that I approach it, the whole "Jump to Endoros system" event doesn't work. I want it to work if you approach it over and over.

(For somebody that might know what I'm talking about, I have the mission if that might help a bit. :))

Re: Jump to a different location when passing through a warp hole?
Let me guess. You just gave both events a repeat count, right?

Using repeating events with a chain has about the same bad reputation and-in-sequence does. And I can't ever recall trying a repeating directive so I can't be certain that would ever work.

I'd probably exchange the directive for a training message and just use a variable to pass the message two events.

I did at first, but when it didn't work I gave up on the it. If it doesn't work the first 20 times, I don't think it will work without some modifying.
